MZ Skorpion Traveller - Scotty_imp - 04-10-2022

It's a 2001 in fantastic, 4,000mi. shape. If you're not aware of these bikes, they were the product of the reunification of Germany, with a Yamaha 3YF engine: water cooled, five valve, 660cc single! The engine was used in the excellent previous-gen Tenere that we didn't get here. This one is a sport touring version, and I'm attracted by its super light weight. I've had a "Sport" before so I know what I'm getting into. Anyway, I thought I'd share.

Cool. Interesting. Rare.

Cool Scotty. Never seen that before. What a treat. Looks like the best thing since the ol' Yamaha SRX-600.

Nice bike! I was unaware of Yamaha engines in the MZ's. I thought they all had Rotax engines. I did see a rebadged MZ as a (neo) Matchless once. Complete with big "flying" M on the tank.

Nice bike!

In my previous life (when I was young & reckless) I owned a beautiful shiny black 1959 MZ ES250 with sidecar. With only 250cc and very few horsepower it struggled a bit with this sidecar, but it sure was nice to ride it on country lanes!!

Huh. Never saw one of those!

ah 2001...the days when you could get a middleweight sport tourer....Reminds me a lot of my Versys, but probably a bit smoother.

I spent quite a bit of time on the MZ Skorpion Sport many years ago. It was a bike I thoroughly enjoyed riding as it was light and nimble even though not very powerful. It was great fun on twisty mountain roads with a precise chassis. I seriously considered buying one at the time, but realized that the engine was a bit limited for long fast tours. Don't get me wrong, it's a great engine but perhaps not that well suited for a sporty bike.
