Going to keep an eye on this... - Gone in 60 - 12-16-2024

I was giving a tour of the workshop area at the Petersen on Saturday morning, so I got there early. Everything in the shop changes so frequently that I need to get there before anyone else so that I can do some quick research on any cars in the shop that I've never seen before or are not familiar with.

They don't do any full restorations in the shop for the most part, just repairs, maintenance and detailing. They do work on interesting projects, largely for STEM classes with teens and automotive students, so there are some ongoing builds.

This one piqued my interest. Have never seen this, and there wasn't anyone around to ask about it. But, looks like they're building something very interesting. I'll keep my eyes on it!

Also saw that the shop was nicely decorated for the holidays! Fuel injection Menorah and tire stack Christmas tree, complete with coil spring and Mercedes emblem star on top.

Is that a 65 Honda CB 450? I had one of those.

I'm not sure. There was a '60s Honda in the shop a few weeks ago that was complete but looked like it needed a going-over. This might be it, being torn down for a rebuild.

The bike is an early (early to mid 60’s) Honda CB77 Superhawk. Hints:
The CB450 “black bomber” has a frame member in front of the engine, whereas the CB77 engine is a part of the frame.
It is not a 450cc engine that has a Double overhead cam.
The 305cc engine is slightly sloped forwarded.
The engine and side cases are identical to my CB77.
The ignition switch is location is in a cutout in the side cover.
The exposed frame is identical to my CB77.
Etc.

Good eye Mike. Details I missed. I stand corrected.

It was easy for me since I’ve owned my CB77 for over 50 years.

Hawk eye, Suhawk !!

That makes sense. I dug through some old pictures, and here's the same bike in the shop about a month ago. That's Mel Torme's green '37 Jaguar, the blue car is the only surviving Leach, and the dark red car is a 1910 Daimler, royal coach to King George V.

50 years! That's amazing.

While mine relies on an ever faltering 74 year old memory that hasn't seen the actual product in nearly 60 years lol

It did remind me of my CL77 (305 Scrambler) but just didn't look right to me. Maybe it was the handlebars that threw me off.
