Loose side cover?? - davidsargee_imp - 03-13-2014

I noticed a couple of days ago that my side cover on the right side is loose at the top front corner. I fumbled with it a little, but I planned to install a 12 volt adapter under the seat so I waited to do that to re-attach the side cover, which I figured had just come loose somehow.

Upon installing the adapter, I removed the side cover to see what was wrong, the tab on the side cover is intact, but there doesn't seem to be anything to attach it to.

Anyone have any thoughts? I'm going to take it by the dealer and see what they say.

Huh

I had the same problem, it was the rubber bushings that the prongs go into were pushed in too far. I greased the bushings and reset them in the right position and they were tight. I guess ungreased the bushing have a hard time sliding through the bushing causing it to push in.

I'll look at that, thanks

Boy this bike really is retro. That has been an issue for 45 years. Some were so bad, particularly Suzukis, that the tabs on the back of the side covers would break off because they were so hard to push onto the grommets. If you had a Suzuki with all 3 side cover tabs intact that was a rare bird. It was common practice that if you removed a side cover that you would spit on the plastic tab to facilitate reinsertion into the rubber grommet.

A couple of times a year I spray some silicone on the rubber grommets and never have a problem getting covers on or off my bikes.
I use the Dupont silicone, very good stuff.

I put on silicon plumbers grease.

Had the same problem on mine; as others mentioned the rubber grommet on the frame tab was only halfway in its hole is what I recall.

Thanks all, Thanks

I will follow your advice.

Same problem with mine, top not staying in place. I thought the issue was too much wiring and connectors fouling the sc fitment. The rubber grommet and plastic bayonet are really dinky and flimsy, IMO
