Drain Plug New Oil Seal - Razorbacjac_imp - 10-23-2014 When changing your oil, do you always change the seal out. Manual says to alway use a new one. I know there cheap but was wondering what most do. Just wondering. RE: Drain Plug New Oil Seal - ClassicVW_imp - 10-23-2014 If the parts guy remembers to include a new one with the oil filter I do, but there have been plenty of times that I reused the old one and never had any issues. RE: Drain Plug New Oil Seal - the Ferret - 10-23-2014 If the old one is deformed,or won't come off the drain plug easily, or if it has a lip you can feel with your thumbnail, then of course replace it, and yes they are cheap, you can pick them up at Honda car dealerships for about 30 cents apiece, if you bike dealership is one of the ones that charges a buck for it. RE: Drain Plug New Oil Seal - ss2wheels_imp - 10-23-2014 you do not have to replace it unless it looks rough, you should not have any problem. It would not hurt to change it maybe after 2or3 times....just my 2 cents about the cost of the 14mm crush washer. RE: Drain Plug New Oil Seal - Houtman_imp - 10-23-2014 I use the other side and after 2 oil changes I will use a new one. RE: Drain Plug New Oil Seal - redbirds_imp - 10-23-2014 When I get an oil filter I'll buy several and replace the seal if the old one looks deformed. RE: Drain Plug New Oil Seal - Razorbacjac_imp - 10-23-2014 Thanks guys....was just wondering. Getting ready to change the oil and forgot to get one. RE: Drain Plug New Oil Seal - JustJohn_imp - 10-23-2014 In the "old days" they would tape one to the box the new filter came in. Just saying. RE: Drain Plug New Oil Seal - dave - 10-23-2014 I have reused the washer many, many times on my bikes before replacing it - probably at least six reuses, and the engine has never leaked a drop. RE: Drain Plug New Oil Seal - Deanohh_imp - 10-23-2014 Ok, I'll be the one to pit it out there this time....why wait another 4-5 pages for someone to do it. A friend of mine put 150000 miles on his wing with no washer at all and never had a problem. YMMV |
