safe to drive 600 mile bike? - linuxology_imp - 12-25-2014 No service on the cb1100 @600 miles and have to drive it ~ 400 miles on a road trip. I could see about it after the 400 miles. Is it safe to do this? RE: safe to drive 600 mile bike? - the Ferret - 12-25-2014 When are you taking the trip? Only takes about 20 minutes to change your oil and filter. http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=202 RE: safe to drive 600 mile bike? - linuxology_imp - 12-25-2014 Ok I am looking to purchase a used one and have to drive it back. Back to negotiating table. RE: safe to drive 600 mile bike? - the Ferret - 12-25-2014 Well, it won't " hurt" it. If you are buying from a dealer make them do it. If you are buying from an individual, check the level ( it will probably be slightly overfilled) just make sure it is above the minimum level. Go ahead and drive it home, then perform the service once you get home. RE: safe to drive 600 mile bike? - linuxology_imp - 12-25-2014 Thanks for easing my mind. Will do it between 900_1000 miles. Private sale RE: safe to drive 600 mile bike? - Blockhead_imp - 12-25-2014 (12-25-2014, 11:15 PM)linuxology_imp Wrote: Thanks for easing my mind. Will do it between 900_1000 miles. Private sale I would bet that you'll find the oil to look very clean when you drain it. Congratulations on the decision to purchase and enjoy the ride home! RE: safe to drive 600 mile bike? - Cormanus - 12-26-2014 Yep: enjoy the ride home. RE: safe to drive 600 mile bike? - DGShannon_imp - 12-26-2014 Far less about getting the oil changed at exactly 600 miles, and more about how the person rode and treated the bike during those 600 miles. Broken in properly, with the rpm limits honored, and a few hundred more miles on the original oil should be of no consequence. If the guy ran around abusing a brand new engine, then the greatest damage has probably already been done. RE: safe to drive 600 mile bike? - old blue_imp - 01-01-2015 Congratulations on the new bike. Please tell us how you like it and how you enjoyed the trip. You shouldn't have anything to worry about. mike RE: safe to drive 600 mile bike? - Aussie_imp - 01-01-2015 I'm assuming that most people who buy these things aren't thrashing them; not like purchasing a second-hand R1! Should be fine, I wouldn't worry about it. Takes no time to change oil/filter when you get it home. |
