Bike wouldn't start - J.W._imp - 02-11-2016
Hi thought I would share this with you, I've got a 2014 1100. Came to use it today but would not start, hit the starter button - nothing at all. Checked kill switch, that was in the right position, sprayed the starter button with electrical cleaner. Still nothing. Now I last used the bike approx six weeks ago, it ran fine then and it has just sat in the garage. Battery is fully charged.
I then checked the battery terminals - all clean and tight. I lifted all the fuses and replaced them - and bingo hit the starter button and she fired.
So the problem would seem to have been related to the fuses, I presume one must have lifted out of its fittings.

2 in 1 day? what are the chances? Check your neutral switch up under the left clutch perch and make sure it is fully connected. 2 prong switch.

Hope this isn't a trend. For the record, my CB started up this morning just fine. I'll hold my breath when I go out to start it again in about half an hour for the ride home.

More info please. Did the lights come on, gauge indicators swing up and down when you turned on the ignition switch? Or was everything "dead"?

Curlyjoe everything was normal, the lights came on the rev counter and speedo needle swung round as usual. It was as I hit the start button - nothing at all. No attempt to turn over and start. I checked the kill switch was ok, side stand was up just nothing.
I checked the battery terminals, the switch under the clutch lever, sprayed the kill switch assembly with GT85. Still nothing on hitting the start button. I then took out each fuse and replaced them, sprayed the whole fusebox with electrical contact cleaner - tried the bike and it fired up first time ? I've since took each fuse out and coated them in electrical grease. I've tried the bike again today and it's fine.

Glad your problem was an easy fix. Traced mine to a defective starter relay.

To clarify, you "took out each fuse and replaced them": you simply took them out and put back in the same ones, re-seating the same fuses, right? And not you replaced them with new fuses?

Hi yes I just took out each fuse, made sure they were intact covered them in electrical grease and put them back into there holders. I've used the bike again today and it's been fine. So I can't really say what the problem was.
