Need info - replacing sticky throttle cable - Ferrealls_imp - 04-07-2017
Throttle on my bike is a little stick. Very stick when turning all the way right. Cable is adjusted all the way at the throttle. Can't fit my clunky hands in to adjust at throttle body, just not enough space. Anyone with a service manual, how far to you have to tear down to access the throttle body? Just the air box, or more to it?
I swapped out my OEM bars for ultra lows a while back, seems I have too much slack in the line, so it binds when turning right (which forces cable to bend on itself). Turning left straightens the cable some, and it performs as expected. I figure I'll just purchase new cables and swap them out, but I may tear down first and see if I can adjust it. Anyone been through this?
Any recommendations on new cables?
Or suggestions on a different course of action?

I put lower bars on, had same problem. Had to re-route the cables. Tried many different ways before I came up with the best way possible. I eventually put risers to bring bars up a little.

What was the final routing you went with? Have any pics? There aren't a lot of options, and I hate taking that darn tank off.

I found that it makes some difference how the the cables are routed directly from the throttle housing on the handlebars. They can be rotated independently several degrees in order to provide optimum cable routing.
Like MMC, I have hand deflectors, although mine are from National Cycle. In MMC's photos you can see that the top cable has been forced downward somewhat which can cause the binding. I was able to bend the hand deflector bracket a bit so that the top cable was not forced downward so much.
If you don't have hand deflectors you should be able to play with the cable direction as they exit the throttle housing and hopefully find a solution with less binding.
