Fuel usage and gauge - the Ferret - 05-12-2017 On todays ride I watched the gauge drop from 1 bar to blinking to count down. When I noticed counting down it said 60 miles until empty. Found a station at 45 miles till empty [url=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/theferret111/media/DSCF6337_zps5l7ixh1p.jpg.html] ![]() Trip B which I use for tank mileage said I had gone 189.5 miles [url=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/theferret111/media/DSCF6338_zpsr6zbhq0k.jpg.html] ![]() It took 3.69 gals to fill which computes by calculator to just over 51 mpg. [url=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/theferret111/media/DSCF6339_zpsetn6qupb.jpg.html] ![]() With a 4.7 gal tank that would leave me about 1 gallon left or about 51 miles. Computer said 45. That was within 6 miles. That's darn close. should work out to about 235 miles before having to push it lol. RE: Fuel usage and gauge - johnf514_imp - 05-12-2017 Goodness you have a disciplined throttle hand. I realize you are on a DLX with that kind of fuel capacity, but I'm lucky if I get +150 miles on 3.5 gallons (pushing that reserve close in the city). RE: Fuel usage and gauge - LongRanger_imp - 05-12-2017 I can't get anything less than 60-62 mpg. The altitude is the reason. RE: Fuel usage and gauge - the Ferret - 05-12-2017 I am usually in the 54 to 57 mpg range but this tank had about 60 miles of freeway work on it and that drops it quite a bit. Fuel usage and gauge - mattmcuomo@yahoo.com - 05-12-2017 I've never gotten more than 45 mpg on my 14'. Mostly freeway and a lot of throttle twisting! Sent from me RE: Fuel usage and gauge - the Ferret - 05-12-2017 Yep freeway and throttle twisting is the enemy of gas mileage RE: Fuel usage and gauge - dave - 05-12-2017 I do not ride my bike hard, but most of the miles are freeway (65-70 mph). I have kept a strict record of my fuel mileage since day 1 (I use a calculator, not the bike computer), and I have averaged 46 mpg. I don't know how you guys get that kind of mileage. Don't ride on the freeway 65-70 mph. I ride back roads 45-60 mph, very little stop and go and no high speed stuff. Smooth throttle hand and mostly one or two gears (5th and 6th) RE: Fuel usage and gauge - DaSwami_imp - 05-13-2017 Good to know it is that accurate.... I am large (280+) and my first CB1100 got 42-44 mpg during break-in......at 1000 miles changed the oil to Amsoil 10W/40 and within a few hundred miles the mileage jumped to 49-51.....I have another CB I will do the same thing and see if it coincidence or not.... Dave, Just curious, have you made comparisons of your calculated fuel mileage vs the bike's computer mpg display? Tank to tank and/or over several tank refills? |
