Reflash procedure - R748_imp - 07-05-2017
Hi all.
I'm keen to hear from anyone who has done an ecu reflash. What is the actual procedure? Can any dealer do it? Does it require a dyno run as well?
Also, what is the approximate cost as i'm wondering if it is significantly less expensive than a power commander and dyno tune.

A number of our fellow members have done it. Don Guhl does it. Since it is writing data to a chip, you can guess he hooks up a computer and loads a new map. I think he did ours with a dyno run from one member, but I can't remember. Ask Don.
He can also remove the speed limit and move the rev limits if so desired. Here is his site: http://www.guhlmotors.com/
I understand that calling is the way to go with them. You send them your ECU and a check, or whatever, and they do their thing and send it back. I think Ridem32 had it done first.

R748, there's not many of us here in Austraya, but I've not heard of anyone reflashing an ECU and getting it done in Australia. I have a suspicion that an English member may even have sent his ECU to Guhl. The single advantage seems to be that, rather than just modifying fuel mapping using a PCV, the reflash can get rid of the speed limiter and modify the rev limiter. It's never really been established whether the Australian bikes have the speed limiter. I can't pedal that fast so I have no idea. However, I'd be surprised if they didn't.

Fair enough mate. Guzzitech offered a similar way to go but it ended up about the same as buying a pc. The joys of efi !
Still, better than spending 4 hours adjusting needles and carbs at the dyno. Actually i take that back. I quite enjoyed the suspense.

Hey R748,
I'm waiting for a PCV and Autotune to arrive ... Motomummy in the US had a special on them. I went the way of the Autotune 'cos I can't find any existing fuel maps specific to my exhaust and I may still play around with air filters down the track. Once it's fitted, tested, tweaked and hopefully not broken I'll let you know how it goes.

I sent my ECU to Guhl Motors from here in the UK, during the winter of 2014.
It took about 3 weeks from out the bike to back in again and cost me approximately £300 including shipping.
I told Don to remove the speed limiter and lift the rev limiter. He also made adjustments to the fuel map to change closed throttle overrun and to accommodate the reduction in back pressure from the loss of the catalytic converter and my Yoshimura muffler.
Whilst I readily admit that I have not tested the speed or rev limiter adjustments, IMHO the bike is more edgy (like a carburetted bike) and therefore (Christ they are gong to kill me! ) less boring to ride.
