Getting ready for new chain and sprockets - the Ferret - 07-29-2017 Have about 35,000 miles on my original chain and sprockets. They still look good and I'm not anywhere close to the red on my adjusters yet, but on our recent Colorado trip I could feel a clicking or ticking when just cruising, that felt to me like it was coming from the chain, so I am going to order a set to have on hand. Happy with the stock gearing and life I have gotten out of the oem stuff so just ordering it from my local dealer. Stock was an RK chain ( Honda offers both RK and DID) so I will just go with one of those. Looked it up on my dealer website and it was $51.73 for the front sprocket, $ 75.69 for the rear sprocket and $209.33 for the rear chain. Total $ 336.75 . YIiiiiiii. Of course he gives me a little discount, so it won't be quite that much. Also need a l/f turn signal lens, as mine rotted off. Only $ 13.27 for that. Whew. Thank goodness I was able to get a left mirror from PowerDubbs. Lol Tell me again how economical it is to ride a motorcycle? Lol. Good thing it's fun! RE: Getting ready for new chain and sprockets - LongRanger_imp - 07-29-2017 That's a minimal expense considering the mileage. A belt for my F800GT is over $400 and it has a 24,000 mile replacement interval. Such is life. But compared to the cost and longevity of new tires, it's really immaterial. Getting ready for new chain and sprockets - PowerDubs_imp - 07-29-2017 Turn signal caps are on eBay for less. Will we get one of those fantastic tutorials? RE: Getting ready for new chain and sprockets - the Ferret - 07-30-2017 DAC will probably let the shop put them on while I go riding on one of their demo bikes lol. RE: Getting ready for new chain and sprockets - DAC - 07-30-2017 Good choice. Best of both worlds. RE: Getting ready for new chain and sprockets - Lord Popgun - 07-30-2017 Come on DAC. He couldn't even put on RLETs. Can't even begin to imagine ferret doing sprockets

Can't even begin to imagine ferret doing sprockets Well we all can't be Nemo, who puts RLets on in what 18 seconds.. Sprockets are easy especially if you are doing the chain the same time.. Only issue I have is after a chain install, I prefer to swing by the dealer and get a press fit to the master link instead of the clip. Seen too many chains come off Speaking of sprockets http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x9p5ey RE: Getting ready for new chain and sprockets - the Ferret - 07-30-2017 I've put on chain and sprockets before and staked a master link. It's not hard, but I don't have a lift or a large compressor and don't care for crawling around on the ground to work on them anymore. Less frustration just to let a mechanic I trust do the heavy lifting so to speak, while I go riding on something I've never ridden before. |
