Is this a classic bad battery issue? - VIDEO - Riko_imp - 08-20-2017

So, my bike won't start, I've made a video of it, listen to the sound of that.

I've posted my question already on various fb pages Smile and consensus is, replace the battery. Shy

I now nothing about this, because this would be my first ever faulty battery on a motorcycle..Blush
I thought it was my starter thats broken and not the battery, since all other electrical stuf works and the noise came from the relays behind the left cover.
But a faulty battery can still make all kinds of electrical stuff work, except cranking the bike, it seems.
And that sound is supposedly a relay protecting the starter from 'overcranking' (dunno how to translate that one)
This shows how much I know about it. Angel

But I had to ask itbhere as well, are we all in consent as well that its a bad battery?

FYI, the bike is owned by myself since Dec '15, second owner.
It had 2K on the clock (thats km) and now has around 21K.

Like I said over there....it sure sounds like a bad battery to me.

Cool

It's either a bad battery, or one with a very low state of charge. The buzzing/clicking sound is the starter relay. Due to the lack of juice in the battery, the relay is engaging and disengaging rapidly. In other words, there's not enough electrical power to keep the relay open and send power to the starter.

If I have reason to suspect that the battery is just low (i.e. left the ignition on), I'll usually stick it on a charger and see if it comes back to life. If there's no good reason for the battery to have a low charge, I figure it's reached the end of its life and replace it.

This battery thing that prevented me from riding my CB today made me remember once again how much I still love this bike. Smile
Although I added a ferocious (compared to the CB) all rounder Multistrada to the pack, I would genuinely miss my CB if I would decide to only keep the Ducati...

Blind luck or not, but I just bumped upon this retro shootout on Youtube wich reminded me once again how great our bikes are!
