Electrical Gremlin - Clock/Trip Reset & No Blinkers - johnf514_imp - 03-16-2018

I rode the CB to work yesterday as we're having great weather here in FL. No issues on the way in, but upon leaving work, I noticed the clock had reset, the trip meter had reset, and the blinkers no longer worked. All of these items worked on the ride in to work.

Also, I noticed that when turning off the bike, the needles did not drop to zero, and the RPM gauge was stuck around 1100RPMs.

Any ideas as to what might cause this? Has anyone seen this behavior before? The bike runs smoothly and exhibits no other issues.

I'd start checking all the fuses and then the battery voltage.

(If both are ok, I'd then call an exorcist)

Bypass fuse and voltage as bike starts and runs ok, check for loose ground connections at battery first.

2nd the battery voltage check , both off and running !

Was thinking loose ground as well. Thanks folks, I'll take a look this weekend and update here.

These are the 10 A fuses:
stop/horn
meter illumination
headlight
start
turn/clock

Perhaps a loose ground/connection on the 10A portion of a bus (@ fuse box)? A bad battery or main chassis ground (under tank) would likely cause more issues along with ignition problems.

If the fuse ( or connector to it wriggle ) is not loose i would have a look in the head light bucket, you are looking for a 6 pole connector with 5 wires in it, that is the always on 12v supply to the cluster and indicator lts, oil and high beam lights.
the 8 pole connector ( green? ) has 2 green wires and one of those is cluster ground.

reset trip/clock is a battery disconnect thing, which has fixed itself by the sound of it, indicators are supplied by the last fuse a la sportsterdoc and only the indicator lights in the cluster are fed from a common junction block somewhere.
Meters not zero is a ' confused " micro or 5 v supply in the cluster, not the ecm.

Meters these days are what is called a "cross field" meter, which is why they indicate more than 90 degrees and have two instead of one coil or they can be stepper motors, both types require a micro to operate and when they sweep across the range on startup that is part of the micro initialization process, any unusual behaviour then points to the micro and/or driver to the meters.

Don’t have the manual in front of me and the attachment is too small (getting older...).

I’d start with your turn signals, trace the wires back to the connector. Check both sides of the wires on the connector, such that you have voltage going through it when you operate the turn signals.

Had a similar problem. Here’s more details.

Issue resolved - looks like the wiring in one of my aftermarket blinkers (came with the bike) was touching and shorting out. Looks like I need new blinkers.

Thanks all!
