OEM Heated Grips - Tim_imp - 04-24-2018 OK I have never done this before but here goes'! I am trying to install the OEM Heated Grip kit, for the most part its pretty simple, but being a life long Aircraft Mechanic I guess my logical way of thinking gets in the way sometimes. When I am asked to just start plugging wires here and there with no identification or color let alone a wiring diagram I get worried. Can anyone out there help me out with that? The instructions I downloaded give like 3 maybe 4 actual plug the blue into the blue and green into the green, but then in the factory harness I have a grey wire, there is no grey wire coming from the grip on the left, only blue, green, and white. Am I supposed to just guess and hope I don't short out the control box and plug the white and grey wires together? Any input would be greatly appreciated. I will see If I can upload a couple pictures that might shed some light on my dilemma. I am working on a 2014 CB1100 I guess I should have said that earlier sorry. RE: OEM Heated Grips - Cormanus - 04-24-2018 Welcome Tim. I’m sure someone with a factory service manual will help you get this sorted. RE: OEM Heated Grips - the Ferret - 04-24-2018 paging Mr popgun, Mr popgun, come to the forum please RE: OEM Heated Grips - Tim_imp - 04-24-2018 (04-24-2018, 06:36 AM)Cormanus_imp Wrote: Welcome Tim. RE: OEM Heated Grips - PowerDubs_imp - 04-24-2018 I did mine quite a while ago, and have long since threw out the instructions- but I don't remember it being confusing at all. My bike is also a 2014. RE: OEM Heated Grips - Lord Popgun - 04-24-2018 2014 huh? I work on aircraft electronics too and we just plug in wires any ol where. Wait, thats not how you do it? Really? Ok, JK LOL. We have a wiring diagram avail. In .pdf that Max and I made. I’ll look for the link. However, the wiring diagram does not show heated grips. I have a schematic for that too from another site. I’ll have to look for it, so give me a few. I can’t post it here for various reasons, but I can email it to you. I’ll pm you my address in a few minutes. Normally, the Honda instructions are VERY specific with no ambiguous steps so it is strange you are having problems. Oh yeah, you do have the attachment kit too right? It is separate from the grip kit. OK, here is the “Max” diagram. It’s for an ABS model. If you live with this I can help you out by email. Off to look at the grip instructions. RE: OEM Heated Grips - Cormanus - 04-24-2018 Where is the "Max" diagram, popgun? RE: OEM Heated Grips - Lord Popgun - 04-24-2018 Uhhhh, I forgot that huh? http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=8120&pid=198297#pid198297Click on the link Max provided Tim, if you follow the instructions exactly, you should not have any problems. In one step they show you plugging the left grip green wire and harness green wire in, then the blue grip wire and blue harness wire. Then plug in the 2 unlabeled wires together. One of those is the gray wire with a tube you put on it. The right grips don’t matter. Either wire goes in where it shows them. It is a series resistive circuit and either way is good. Thats why they aren’t labeled on the instructions. RE: OEM Heated Grips - Cormanus - 04-24-2018 Good on you, popgun!
RE: OEM Heated Grips - Lord Popgun - 04-24-2018 Cormanus, just throw another shrimp on the barbi for me, mate!! (I bet Aussies still hate that commercial )Ferret, I’m starting to feel like Igofar on the ST board At least we have Sportsterdoc, Max, and Wisedrum to help out!!!!
