Adventure Touring Tires ? - bflint - 03-27-2018
I am looking for a "dual purpose" tire to temp replace my Michelin Road Pilot 3 tires. In my future xcountry rides, I might encounter some dirt roads that I might like to explore. The Pilot 3's don't do well in powder dirt or sand patches that popup occassionally.

Anybody have a recommendation for a adventure touring type tire that my CB1100DX would like? A few that I looked at are:
- Michelin Anakee 3 Adventure Touring Tire
- Conti TKC70 Dual Sport Motorcycle Tire
- Avon TrailRider Dual Sport Tire

I suspect some of these more aggressive tread patterns my cause some extra noise, but I don't know if it would be noticeable at freeway speeds. Saw some RoadRunner magazine articles showing touring bikes with adventure type tires, but don't what they were.

I've had good luck with Metzler Tourances on a V-Strom (650). They were good on pavement, not too noisy. And they were a big improvement over the stock tires on gravel and loose sand. If they come in a size that you need, you might give them a look.

On my 2013 I put a Conti trail attack 2 on the rear , a 150/70 ZR 18
They call it a 90/10 tire (90 road, 10 off road ) I never go off road but really like this tire , it has excellent grip in dry and rain.
Not cheap at $200 but a 140 is cheaper than the 150.
Check the reviews for this rear tire.

Not having much luck finding Adventure Touring tires for our CB1100. Researched a Conti and Perelli.
For Conti Trail Attack 2, size on front is a 120/70-17 and on rear a 180/55-17.
For Perelli MT60RS, size on front is either a 110/80-18 or 120/70-17 and rear a 180/55-17.
A local moto tire dealer said that neither of these would work on the CB1100.
Argh. Will continue to research

You should not have any problems finding the trail attack 2 , available in 140 and 150 for 18 inch rims.
I just ordered them from local dealer.

You need 18" tires. 110 or 120 wide on front. 140, 150, or 160 wide on the rear.
Notice the thread on the Pirelli tires he mixed two different styles to get the correct sizes.

Finis! I gave up on the adv tire thing. Since Pilot Road 3 sets are no longer available, I just replaced 2nd set of Pilot Road 3 tires with Pirelli Angel GT tires. * Maybe I should research towing a trailer, behind my CB1100, with a small enduro bike on the it
