Scottoiler (chain oiler) - Jfro5687_imp - 06-08-2018
Hi all,
Picking up my CB next week. The only thing I intend to add is my Scottoiler, I have just realised that not everyone may have heard of this because gadget because this forum has members all over the world. Scottoiler is a UK brand name of a vacuum operated automatic chain oiler. I have used them on every chain driven bike I have had for over 20 odd years and like them. Anyhow, to the point.....because the CB is fuel injected does it still have the little vacuum take off nipples on the intake rubbers? If not is there a vacuum pipe i can cut into with a T piece? Does anyone know.......

A quick look in the manual doesn’t show any. A forum search shows a number of members have installed them and apparently tapped a MAP sensor vacuum line. I couldn’t find any pictures or detailed installation instructions though.
Not to start an argument—its been discussed already here, but you do realize that modern O-ring chains don’t need constant oiling...

I use an old Scottoiler with my fuelinjected W800 because it is a left over one from the previous owned used W650. It should not be a problem with the also fuelinjected CB. Follow the instrunctions. The former owner installed it. So I demounted it and sold the bike for the W800. I have the oiler, that's the reason why I use. It is not the stone of the wise. Newer models may be better. I will not try them out, not with the CB and the RE. The old one works but don't ask me how. Somehow. Rain and watery conditions are not its favoured specialty. I prefer taking own care for the chain. Way better and much more satisfying.

I will take a look when it arrives. Yea i know modern chains are very good but a little light lubrication can only be a positive thing. Once set up you never need to touch them again and i have never had to adjust a chain either. Thanks for the replies

Of course z, x and o ring chains are much more resitent than industrial chains. They have an inner lubrication, that will stay for a longer time.
Outer lubrications hinder abrasive behavior of metal running on metal and rust to catch your chain. Something that is not easily to prevent during riding in rain, no matter how you or another oiler will oil the chain.
