Shell Gas - glenncal1_imp - 06-26-2018
Last time I road I filled the 2013 with shell premium (91 octane here in CO). I took the bike out yesterday afternoon and it was hot 95+. The bike was purring like a kitten. Don't know if it was the gas but man she was running even smoother than normal in temperature conditions that would not be condusive. Gonna fill her with the same gas and check the mileage next time out.

I imagined with 98oct she would run smoother than 95oct at the consumption i observed never something specal (here or there we get sometimes too 100oct....but this is not worth the money to me)

As I have mentioned before I always use 93 Shell in my bikes and lawn equipment and 87 Shell in our cars.
Never had a problem in over 30 years with carbs etc.

I have tried higher octane in my CB1100 before and not noticed a difference. However, I did not try it in very hot conditions and that could make it worth another try... however...

Granted, this was not a Shell station and it was in Wisconsin, but it's $.70/gallon more and it's only 91 octane.
My local Shell has 87 octane for $3.29/gallon and 93 octane for $4.29/gallon -- Gotta love Cook County.
It's supposed to be very hot this weekend. Maybe I'll give the 93 octane a shot and see if I notice a $3.00/tankful difference.

non-ethanol is pretty few and far between around here. my local Mobil has 90, which is fine. it's not always convenient to hit that particular station though.

My last carb bike enjoyed non-ethanol gas immensely and in hot weather I'd run high test which seemed to make it run smoother. With the CB my seat of the pants dyno has not been able to feel any difference no matter what I put in the fuel tank so I stick to what the owners manual recommends.
During a recent trip along the NC coast most stations sold non-ethanol gas (boat engines prefer it?) so I tried several tanks in a row for the fun of it with no discernible difference in performance or smoothness.

I have heard a faint ping under moderate acceleration in lower RPMs, but only below sea level in Death Valley.
Going to Overton, via Lake Mead in a few minutes with 87 octane and 108 F forecast.
A familiar route, but much more comfortable on the CB!

Good night..our local 87 Octane runs $2.65 to $2.85 .The closest Shell to me is 9.07 miles and 87 Octane is $2.79 gal

I've used higher octane fuel couple of times and can feel no difference whatever. For me, running 91 or higher in a motor designed to run on 87 is a waste of money. There are nearby sources of non-ethanol fuel but I only use them in my carb motors since fuel injected motors seem little affected by ethanol and it's about the same price as premium.

I wouldn't think octane would make any difference whatsoever on this bike unless the ECU is flashed and ign advanced. Very low CR, very mild tune.
