Slip-on before first service? - MinkeyChief_imp - 08-11-2018

I used to be the guy who would surprise dealerships by being back so fast for the first service, but this time—with work being bicycle-commute distance—I’m taking a while to get to 600 miles. (I’m also staying off the SoCal freeways till I build up confidence—as mentioned in my intro post, I’m back on a motorcycle after a 14-year gap.)

My Staintune slip-on has just arrived from Australia. Would there be any issue with installing it now, at about 250 miles?

Also, should I do an oil change earlier?

My opinion is it won't hurt to install it now. Do your own 600 mile service.. it's really easy on this bike. But at any rate, even if you take it to a shop it won't affect your service and truthfully they probably won't know it isn't the stock pipe.

Overall I agree with the ferret on this one. I installed my Staintune so long ago now that I can't remember how many miles I had on the bike at the time. But after my initial purchase I've only ever visited the dealership to purchase parts and consumables as I've done the servicing of my CB on my own.

Thanks for the replies. I just put it on and thought I had the same clearance issue with the shock bolt. But forum to the rescue; I loosened the clamp and rotated the muffler out a little and it’s fine.

I’ve just done a start and rev and wow. Engine note is deeper, and it has a great growl. It doesn’t have that tinny wide open free-breathing sound at all. Completely in character with the bike... but you’ve heard this all before!

I've only grown more fond of my Staintune exhaust over time. I'm not sure that I notice all that much in terms of the horsepower gains as claimed. But I do enjoy the instant gratification I get every time out — not only from the tone of the exhaust but also from the immediate throttle response that it seems to provide for rev-matching when downshifting and the like. Enjoy.

It really is the best muffler for this bike in terms of what Honda should have done in look and sound.

Honda got it right on the 2017 CB1100 EX. Beautiful sound, but not obnoxious. More like the 70s CBs. It even pops and snorts when you try to hold it back in first gear.

Can’t wait to hear one in real life. I’ve never seen another CB other than online.
