Headlight Beam Height Adjustment - Any Pics? - markT_imp - 10-14-2018
Hi Guys
English winter is creeping up on us and darker nights are here.
Noticed that when I hit high beam it was too high the other night.
There is a thread on here that covers the process but pics are not visible.
Does anyone have pics or manual extract before I start fiddling around with it please?

Ok so I checked the under seat manual and there is a bit about this in there.
Seems it is just loosen the fastener on both sides and then pull/ push to raise lower.
Bit surprised as my others have a long thin bolt (hidden under) on a spring which you wind in/ out to raise lower.
Would have thought the lack of third point fixing makes it prone to come out of adjustment and get vibration issues.
Is there a link to exploded parts diagrams for CB 1100 on partzilla or somewhere I can see how it is all held together & damped ??

It isn’t rocket science though, just loosen the screws and move the headlight up or down. If you look on the end of the “ears” you will see there is a line molded on it and an arrow on the headlight bucket. Those are your reference points.
Look at this pic of the inside of my bucket: http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=5656&pid=87099#pid87099 You can see the funny nut on the inside. It is a nut/wire cable holder in one and sits inside of plastic guides (I guess you could call them).
If you take the screw all the way out, it is possible to putz around and move the nut out of place and then have to take the headlight out to get everything right. Ask me how I know?

Well, there wasn’t supposed to be a question mark there.
Ok, putzing around when mounting the Road Comet for the first time and then swapping the front ‘13 turn signals to ‘14 signals.
As far as the Road Comet, I don’t remove the mounts it comes with when I take it off and put on the Street Shield EX. So no problems

Here's one I found on a BMW forum several years ago. I performed this in my driveway. There's still a piece of Gorilla Tape stuck to the concrete marking the 17' location. Here ya' are:

Motorcycle Headlight Aiming
Getting a correctly aimed headlight is straightforward. You need to make a couple of measurements and then aim the light at a flat wall, as follows:
With the bike on its wheels and you astride, have a helper measure the distance from the floor to the center of the headlight lens.
Pick a flat wall where you can locate the bike so the headlight is 17 feet from the wall. Place a horizontal mark on the wall two (2) inches lower than the height of the center of the headlight.
The headlight beam (on low beam) should be relatively flat on the top, and may rise rather sharply at the right edge. Adjust the headlight vertically so that the flat top of the beam is just up to that line (marked two inches down at 17 feet).
Horizontal adjustment should center the beam ahead of the line of the bike.

yea I disagree with that. It places no emphasis on rider weight or if they have a passenger. The further the rear shocks are compressed, the higher the headlight shines. Headlight adjustment will not be the same for everyone. It must be adjusted to the individual, just like, bars, levers and mirrors

I read the same thing, and thought it obvious (to me) that the point was for the helper to steady the bike with the rider astride. (Astride meaning feet on the pegs - weight on the bike)
I thought that would allow for the riders weight. As far as the projection when two-up riding, that same logic applies to suspension settings, I believe.
So...it's just a difference of how each of us read or interpret instructions.
I much prefer "seeing it' on Youtube anyway. I learn better that way.
I have started doing "anal/perfect" handyman work for friends because that is the way I do things for myself. I don't mind the extra time it takes. (it's never the money...it's always the time and commitment.)
In this endeavor, I have had to reads lots of instruction sheets. Lots! It appears the the ability to clearly convey information for a broad assortment of users is darn near impossible. Accounting for the least -motivated or least-inspired person, as well as a more experienced one, must be exasperating.
