Bought a used CB1100 - valve adjustment question - Little Clay_imp - 06-24-2018

Greeting CB 1100 Forum!
New guy here first posting - I got a used 2014 CB1100 recently with 16,400mi. Bought from a dealer who said it was a trade-in. They said that they did not know if the 16000mi valve adjustment had been done by the previous owner or not. Question, is this something I need to have done immediately?
Please advise, Thanks
I can tell you that the bike is running great

G’day Little Clay and welcome to the forum. Based on reports here, you’re likely to be safe leaving the valve inspection until the next service interval. There have been very few reported adjustments.

Thanks again Cormanus. Been looking into it more with the help of you and others. The bike is running great, smooth as glass. I'm thinking, first up I'm gonna do the breaks, oil change and allround safety check

You mean brakes Tongue While at it you should flush them and the clutch.

Oil? OH BOY, an oil thread. Man, if you ask whats the best you’ll get about 75 different answers. I’ll start. I use Honda 10W30.

Can only write what I did concerning the valve inspection. Nothing til yet, which means til 46.000km.
There will be ones who will shake their heads in disbelieve and also ones who did the same.

Ferret once wrote, if the bike is running well, has a stabil and normal idle, an averagely similar fuel consumption and starts well, there's is no need to worry. I don't. All this can mean nothing, who knows and the engine will maybe burn its exhaust valves. But I don't think so having read a lot of checked valve reports. Sometimes in the future I will have them checked...

G'day Little Clay

Some time ago Pterodactyl started a thread on the values found at the valve inspection, "The OBSERVED Valve Clearance thread" a short search will find it.

I'm not sweating it, it will be some time before I indulge in this task,

regards NRTM

As for oil, use one that meets Honda's spec's laid out in the owner's manual, whether 10-30 or 10-40, and change when called for. I use Shell Rotella 5W-40 synthetic because it's a good oil and cheap at Wal Mart.

A Honda service center hinted that they have performed the valve service on CBs and they did not adjust the valves because they were in spec. They still had to bill time cost for the labour to inspect and any consumable parts involved. This appears to concur with some comments in this topic thread.

I’ve got over 50,000 miles on my 14 CB1100. Never even checked the valves. Bike runs great, fuel consumption has not changed at all. I think you’re good.
