CB going in for Valve check/adjustment - Frulk_imp - 03-20-2019

The 2013 I bought new in 2015 currently has 19,000 +/- on the odo and is now going in for it's first valve check on Friday.

If the valve check is required at 8,000 miles per Honda why did I wait to bring it in until now?

In descending order of importance of why I did this.

1) I have Zero faith in my dealerships maintenance and parts department.

2) Based on our Forums membership feedback when they did have it done at the prescribed service interval this does not appear to be a problem area for the bike.

3) It took a while to find a shop I was comfortable with.

Trailering bike down Friday and dropping it off to have valves looked at and brakes flushed and rear pads replaced. At the same Time I'll have them replace the plugs since they have to pull the tank anyway.

I'll ask the tech to write down the specs of each valve and will report them back here. Tech on the phone told me they are out about a week before it will be ready. I'll plug the commuter role with the XR1200 in the meantime.

I am sure many at this Forum have high expectations regarding the results. Smile

G'day Frulk could you please post the results of the shop visit in , "The OBSERVED Valve Clearance thread" started by Pterodactyl.

Remember the original 750 with single overhead cam, rockers, and access holes in the cam/valve cover for adjustment? Very easy and quick to check and adjust valves, all you needed was a 10 mm box wrench, a screwdriver, and a feeler gauges. Double overhead cams and shim adjusters hardly ever need "adjustment" because valve and valve seat materials are so much better now.

Got a call from the shop today. Bike is ready to be picked up. Valves adjusted, rear pads replaced, plugs replaced, brake lines flushed. $510.00 after tax. Going down tomorrow to Salt Lake City to pick it up and trailer it home.

Hopefully they can articulate quantitatively in the work report the valve adjustments.

I asked them to. Will post it here and in the thread where we track valve clearances.

I think is a good price for all the work they did and parts.

That sounds like a pretty good deal, since they actually had to remove the cams to adjust the valves. I would have expected a bigger number.
