2017 CB1100 EX FUEL CAPACITY - Nortoon_imp - 02-02-2018
Now that 2017 CB1100 EX riders have a year's riding experience, I have a question that was never answered.
The Owners Manual (mine included) states the fuel tank holds 4.4 US gallons or 16.8 liters.
However the Honda Canada website indicates in only holds 14.6 liters (3.86 US gallons). I am willing to believe this because my maximum fuel range appears to be just over 300 kilometers/190 miles.
If the tank did hold 16.8 liters, I should have a maximum fuel range of just over 350 kilometers/220 miles.
Has anyone ridden close to 350 kilometers/220 miles before refueling?

16.8 is right....." I NEED" here by our speedlimits and my drivestile round 4.1l per 100km......and the DLX has round 1l more tank volume

For me the engine stops between about 290 and 310 km, my bike is a 2011 with a 14.6 liter tank.
I'm about to run the tank dry for the 4th or 5th time and am at 302.8 km.

Once on a Scandinavia trip I got over 310km out of the 2011 tank of the CB without runnig it dry. I'm not aiming for that but couldn't find a gasoline station in the woods of Lappland for a while.
Normally it's time to fetch some new gasoline every 250km to stay mentally relaxed.
If it's cold in winter as it these days I can't reach the values I got in warmer periods. Over all the CB has a fuel consumption of nearly 4,7l / 100km over a distance of 45.000km not riding it hard. A good value for such a big aircooled engine.

My '13 CB/5 speed has Honda's 16.8 L tank from Tahaski. OEM was 14.6 L
My average is up to 350 km and maximum record 395 km ( did not run out of gas)...depending on RPM and speed
I love my 16.8 L tank, 'cuz do not have to stop for at least 300+ km

What I need is information on the 2017 EX fuel tank.
I average 21 kilometers per liter.
So my calculated maximum fuel range is 307 kilometers/190 miles.
If anyone with a 2017 CB1100 EX ordinarily exceeds this maximum, I would like to know.

Honda Canada has just posted the specs for the 2018 CB1100 RS.
They state the fuel tank holds 16.8 liters.
I doubt Honda has made a different tank just for the Canadian 2017 CB1100 EX.
So I am going to assume the tank on my 2017 CB1100 EX holds 16.8 liters .... until I run out of gas on some lonely back road.

The real question is not what the tank will hold, filled up from dry, but what is usable capacity, before the fuel pump intake sucks air.
A carbed bke could be run dry.
Not so with EFI.
Be good to figure that the last 1/2 gallon or 2 liters may not be usable.
Fortunately the pickup tube is towards the rear of the tank, so there is more usable going uphill, versus downhill.

Fired instantly after I gassed up.
So I believe the notion that a fuel-injected engine cannot/should not be run dry is, or has, become archaic. It definitely doesn't apply to that bike. So, why would it apply to any other bike? What exactly happens? Does the fuel pump lose its prime? I think not. Does all the dirt in the bottom of the tank get pumped into the fuel lines and clog the works? I doubt that.
Those were the reasons given in past decades for not running a FI automobile dry. I am pretty sure they do not apply any longer.
