Pre-Purchase Inspection for used CB1100s - paisa_imp - 05-22-2020 Hi folks, I couldn’t find a nice summary for this so I thought I would ask. I’m considering purchasing a secondhand 2016 CB1100A (with ABS) from a local dealer but wanted to get insight into anything specific to look at. I know the general items to look at when buying a used bike but not specific items for a CB1100 with ABS. Appreciate any insights. RE: Pre-Purchase Inspection for used CB1100s - peterbaron - 05-22-2020 If was not abused/accident and look after, generally, you may not worry at all, as these are excellent Honda quality. Bought my '13 demo from a dealer , sold it at 56 Kms then got '14 model privately with 17Kms and now at 39Kms = love them all, no issues. Get one for yourself while quantities last, good luck. More than certain that others will chime in.
RE: Pre-Purchase Inspection for used CB1100s - bioman_imp - 05-22-2020 I bought a CB1100A (the illusive black version with white checkers) last year from a dealer in Vancouver. So far so good. Only surprise was that I found out later that the battery was useless and had to be replaced. Main thing is as peterbaron wrote: check for any previous accidents/falls. Given the rainy Westcoast climate, perhaps look at corrosion. Other than that, the usual ones: previous maintenance schedule, cleanliness of the engine (i.e. proof of maintenance), tires, engine sound, chain & sprockets, oil (quality/level), suspension, etc etc. They seem to be pretty bulletproof bikes. Show us a picture if you buy it!! RE: Pre-Purchase Inspection for used CB1100s - Lord Popgun - 05-22-2020 PB, shouldn’t he make sure, real sure, the Turbo Encabulator works? ![]() If you don’t know, the ABS light will stay on until you are moving ~6mph. RE: Pre-Purchase Inspection for used CB1100s - LongRanger_imp - 05-22-2020 How many miles/kms are on the bike you're considering? I'd probably expect to replace the battery as a precaution if it's original, and replace the brake & clutch fluid if it's never been done before. Otherwise, if the tires are reasonably fresh and the oil has been changed, I can't imagine you'd have any mechanical issues. Obviously, ask for the service records if they're available. RE: Pre-Purchase Inspection for used CB1100s - paisa_imp - 05-22-2020 Thanks for all the responses so far - it’s only got about 1000 miles on it. I’ll ask about having the battery and fluids replaced or otherwise getting a discount on it. RE: Pre-Purchase Inspection for used CB1100s - bioman_imp - 05-22-2020 And BTW you should be able to negotiate it down to a very reasonable price. The CB1100 is not a very popular bike and the Corona-crisis didn't exactly help much. Don't pay more than CA $8500 for a 2016 CB1100 with 1000 kms. |
