How to know if there's current leakage or battery is dying? - zirconxi_imp - 12-16-2020

Hi all, I had a 9 months old AGM battery installed in my CB that is getting low to crank if I left the bike for 3 or more days. Had taken it out to shop for charging and shop had tested it and says everything is fine. But after I install the battery and left the bike for 3 more days, its getting low to start again. I had taken out the battery and charge it before, and left it after charged for a week before I install back, it crank ok, but after 2 more days it can't crank anymore. So how do I know if the bike is leaking current somewhere (my main suspect) or my battery is dying and can't hold current once I use it?
Do our CB use lots of current when the key is off??
Can I test if there's any leakage just by using multimeter? In normal circumstances I would just buy a new battery, but I am afraid the bike might have other problem other than battery....

Do you have anything aftermarket installed, such as heated grips or auxiliary lights or a usb port?

My bike only had an additional USB port installed. But its only power up after key turn to power on. Not sure where the power are tap into as its installed by previous owner.

maybe its a translate error and i understand it wrong...

you installed a strange secondhand battery ....the battery was at his time already 9 months old... ?

Ok, do you have anything constantly plugged into that USB port eg. GPS? The USB port alone is probably drawing some electricity but too low to be noticable, however if there is a device plugged in it may draw more even though the key is turned off. Other than that, it could be a failing regulator rectifier, and our CB1100 is still a Honda so that's something to be expected.

Sorry if my sentences aren't clear as English is not my native speaking language.
Its a new AGM battery, I bought it new and use since March (Mar-Dec= 9 months). But I had not been riding my CB much since pandemic. Only rode about 4000km this whole year.

Nothing is plugged in at the moment. I will try to remove the USB port and see if it helps as I don't really use it anyway... And its installed with easy plugin/removable crimp connector.

Zirconxi i remember you had a multimeter when you tested the crank sensor?
If you disconnect the negative battery terminal and connect the multimeter inbetween the minus battery terminal and the cable you should only measure 10 mA max. of current with the meter on the dc current position and the key switched off.
If you have hiss the meter will indicate with every blink but that should only last for 24hours, after that the led should stay off.

Testing without a meter; disconnect battery negative for a long period and see if the battery still holds enough charge to start the engine

Thanks Max for the instruction, yes I had a multimeter on hand, but not sure how to use it. Will try it today after work.

At the very least the Honda has a clock that draws current continuously, right?

Does it need power to retain data for the odometer and trip meters?
