HONDA Part numbering system logic. - 17-CB-002 - 04-06-2022 Good Day Gents, I have an interesting question and will like to have your expert opinion. Honda part number supersession. From experience of other OEM, usually when there is a minor change to a part ONLY the last digit of the part number changes. I wonder whether this holds true for Honda. Air Filter for our CB part # 17210-MEJ-981 The question is: Can we confirm whether the previous # before the part change/upgrade is 17210-MEJ-980 or is it a complete different filter for other models? Thanks Alain RE: HONDA Part numbering system logic. - Lord Popgun - 04-06-2022 Check this out: https://www.oemmotorparts.com/de/product/honda/17210MEJ980-2117210MEJ980-element-air-cleaner Notice the part number in the specs under SKU RE: HONDA Part numbering system logic. - pekingduck - 04-06-2022 Yes, 17210-MEJ-980 has been superseded to 17210-MEJ-981 for 2013, 2014, and 2017 US models. Some online parts sources may be slow to update their parts catalogs, or have stock of the earlier part. RE: HONDA Part numbering system logic. - Tev62 - 04-06-2022 I suspect there is no meaningful change to the product though, it could just be a change in manufacturing location or different packaging. The K&N filter for the CB1100, 2013 to present has the same part number and also includes fitment to the CB 1300 F (SC54) since 2003 running right through to 2012. (HA-1301) The HiFlow HFA1932 is the same from 2013 to present. The last number is for changes other than a major design change, and as Tev62 offered, is for supplier or packaging or manufacturing process change, but still meets the original design criteria. And they usually start at 0. |
