my wheel is coming from a 13, so I will need to paint or otherwise make it black. So I'm interested in how you went about it as well as pics... I'm guessing powder coat is pretty standard?

Powder coating has to be the best, but I used a two part wheel paint by Dupli-Color that looked good and held up well.
