Cable Lubrication ? - bflint - 11-30-2017
After 19,500 miles, my 2014 cb1100dx clutch cable started squeaking, so assume I can just lubricate it with something. Found this cable lube kit on Amazon. Does this seem like the correct approach?

The clutch on your bike hydraulically operated - hence the reservoir by the handlebar lever.
If you search the forum you will find that others have referred to this DX issue and how best to resolve it.

That's probably better than my old school way. Poke a hole in the bottom corner of a sandwich bag, tape it to the top of the cable sheath, add oil, and tape the bag to the clothes line. Wait a day to see if the bag is empty or oil is dripping out the bottom of the cable on the grass. The good old days.

You have to lube the pivot pin for the lever. Its on here somewhere how to do it. Ferret just reposted it in the last week or so.

The squeaky clutch lever is pretty common. I solved mine temporarily by shooting silicone lube around the clutch lever pivot. A more lasting fix is to remove the lever and dab some grease on the pivot directly. The Ferret has a how-to post on the subject here :

My VFR800 had over 100,000 miles before I replaced the brake and clutch fluid, and I couldn't tell the difference after the replacement. My 1991 Toyota pick-up, with 200,000+ miles, still has the original brake and clutch fluid.

The only difference I could notice after changing the clutch fluid at 34.000km in the CB's 4th year, the old fluid was much darker than the new. Even darker than the brake fluid which was changed at the same and for the first time. It seems, that the clutch fluid was more heavily used than the other fluid. No wonder, switching gears comes more often to the table while riding than breaking in my riding style. I give the CB some more years before I change these fluids again.
