Tank decal and the junk left behind - Gordo_imp - 09-05-2021
I removed the tank decals off my 2013 CB1100, but I cant figure out how to get the rest of what's left behind off. There is no residue per say, it's the outline of each decal. Its doesnt look like fade, because there is a fine line of something left behind. I've tried goof off, a citrus cleaner, a blow drier and a heat gun. I'm a lil nervous putting so much heat to the tank. I ran it by my local shop and they say it would have to be professionally done. Any tips?

I haven't tried that. Any kind that you recommend. I'm regretting doing this. This is what I'm left with. It's a little more noticeable in the pics.

It's a little more noticeable in the pics.That's gonna be difficult, basically the UV and the elements have changed the rest of the clear coating, it's not the area under the stickers that is discolored. If polish doesn't work the tank will most likely have to be sanded and re-sprayed with a clear coat. I think you should save yourself time and trouble and just have it done right away

You can buy new stickers and replace them if you want. They are listed in the parts fiche.

I removed my by using a simple heat gun to warm them up, peeled them off and used Goo Gone to remove the residual glue residue. Easy peezy.
If the Clear Coat has been altered in hue due to UV exposure, then wet sanding & polishing might be in order. Shouldn't be too tough a job on such a small surface area.

I experienced the same issue on my newly acquired 2013. Thinking it was adhesive residue, I purchased a pretty potent adhesive remover from auto parts store. It did clean up the balance of the adhesive, but the shadows remained. Not wanting to do anything to damage the finish, I quit there. After several weeks of riding, the shadows became less and less noticeable. Today, several months later, most people wouldn’t notice them.
