What countries have HISS on their CB1100? - pekingduck - 08-11-2022
I'm wondering which countries Honda used their HISS anti-theft system on the CB1100, and what it does. Is it just an immobilizer or is there an alarm?
In the US, only the Rune had HISS, and it was somewhat confusing in programming replacement keys, etc.

In the UK I have HISS on my cb1100 and cb500x and other Honda's I've owned, its an ignition immobilizer not an alarm.
When new the bike comes with two keys and small tag with a key number and bar code on it which you need to programme any spare keys you might need from a Honda dealer.
Many small key cutting firms here now have software to copy keys.
There are guides on the net on how to pair a new key to your bike but I have never needed to do this.
I've never had any problems with HISS you just don't know its there but I guess if it goes wrong it would be a big problem.

The Australian 2010-11 CB1100s came with HISS. As Mixagon says, it's an immobilizer. On the Shadow I owned before the CB1100, which also has HISS, I needed a new key. Having got the new blank from Honda it took a while to find someone to cut it and then I had to go to the dealer to get the key programmed to the bike. I seem to recall that there's a finite number of keys that can be programmed before you have to replace some expensive component. I also recall that there are YouTube videos on how to do the programming yourself.
I've not had problems with it with either bike.

I’m not sure GO, but apparently if your HISS-equipped bike gets stolen the thieves will have to replace both the key cylinder and the ECU to get it going again. See https://global.honda/innovation/technology/motorcycle/tech-views/vol04_hiss.html

Thanks for your replies. Is it on Canadian bikes?
The Honda website listed says:
"Honda's immobilizer is called the Honda Ignition Security System (H.I.S.S.), which electronically controls the starting of the engine."
Does that mean it controls just starting, or running also (as in push start) ?

My bike has HISS and I've push started it. But the key's been in the ignition. So I suspect the requirement is that a programmed key be in the ignition and switched on for the bike to start.
As far as I know it was on the 2010-11 bikes that came to Australia.

In Germany the CB came with HISS on the market in 2013.

In Italy HISS is installed on all Honda.
The ignition lock does not recognize Honda unencrypted keys, preventing them from starting.
HISS was already present on my former Transalp 650 year 2006.
