O ring chain problem - Mixagon_imp - 10-16-2023

I know there is another O ring thread but I'd really like advice about my chain.

I have a 2017 cb500 with 3k on the clock. The problem is the O ring chain is really stiff even after being well cleaned and lubed, its that stiff its kinked in a few places after it leaves the front sprocket.
I asked the mot guy back in June when he tested and passed the bike and he says a lot of O ring chains are stiff don't worry about it.

Has anyone come across this before and what could be used to free it, I have thought of silicon spray or very thin oil but not sure.

That link I posted in the other thread ... I think, answers your question and explains which cleaner to use. I cannot open it right now and check. So let me know later if I am right.
Cheers

What you're describing is the signs of a worn chain, or a damaged chain. If cleaning and lubricating it doesn't solve your problem I would replace it, and probably the sprockets at the same time.

I thought that but chain and sprockets look new as they should at 3k miles. I wonder if lack of use is the cause.

Maybe, Mixagon. I replaced the original chain at 30.5K miles. The next replacement was after 16K miles as the chain developed a nasty stiff spot. The guy who replaced it for me said they can go for no obvious reason. That replacement lasted 27K miles.

I was thinking earlier today, when I got the bike at around 1.5k miles the chain was covered in many coats of that chain wax which I don't like and never use so I cleaned it off which was a difficult task so maybe I missed some.
Going to do a close inspection later and decide what to do next.

I used to use chain wax until I got bored of it, particularly during cold season riding.

Kerosene and a rag should make fast work removing the wax - if there is a next time.

I use 90wt gear oil on my chain, applied with a paint brush.
