3 new records on the CB tonight - the Ferret - 06-20-2013 Rode out to eastern Ohio today and in the process set three new records for me and the CB. First tank it still hadn't started started flashing reserve at 142 miles when I stopped for gas. 142 miles took 2.5 gal to fill for 56.8 mpg On the next tank it went on flashing reserve at 146 miles. I stopped for gas at 171.4 miles and it took 3.1 for 55 mpg. Record 1 Best gas mileage 56.8 mpg Record 2 Most miles before hitting reserve 146 Record 3 Most miles on a tank 171.4 BTW turned over 2,100 miles on todays ride. Oh and one of the gas stops a guy was admiring the bike as I came out of the station. Said my bike was running hot cause the pipes were turning red. I told him about the stainless steel but I don't think it sunk in. Said I should be running 20w50 oil cause it needed thicker viscosity when it's hot. Lol. He was 69 and said he put 100,000 miles on a Honda Pacific Coast before he gave up riding at 63 because car drivers are crazy these days. What a hoot. RE: 3 new records on the CB tonight - lola_imp - 06-21-2013 that is great gas milage! the lights start blinking on mine at 120 miles but maybe its how I ride the damn thing. RE: 3 new records on the CB tonight - dBuster_imp - 06-21-2013 I wish I could have let myself be confident in the bike, but after riding for 2 weeks with the fuel indicator on the last bar I said I better fill up. after only 85 miles, took 2.5 gallons of gas... Been riding now for the past two weeks and the gauge has not moved from full. Maybe it was the new bike getting the rust out of the fuel sending unit syndrome? <-- completely made that up Any how, I will be looking if everyone here says it flashes or blinks when it hits reserve I will be more trusting to let it blink before fueling the next time. RE: 3 new records on the CB tonight - CB4ME_imp - 06-21-2013 Ferret - do you find the gas guage indicators to be linear? Theoritically each indicator should disappear after 3/5ths of a gallon of gas is used. (5 bars for 3 gallons). I haven't done any testing but it seems the first and indicators go off faster than the last 2. That's amazing gas milage. I'm getting around 46 mpg two up riding. In a perfect world it would work as you say, drop 1 bar as each 1/5 of the fuel is consumed, but it doesn't. By 80 miles I am down to 2 bars. Goes to 1 around 106 and then starts flashing between 136 and now 146. I believe you could go 40 miles on flashing reserve. Last night I went 25 and it still in theory had over 1/2 gallon left. To me "in theory" I could have gone 50 miles on flashing reserve, but I hate pushing 500 pound motorcycles. I have been riding solo so that helps with the mileage as does he fact that I ride fairly easily..by that I mean speed limit + - 5 mph with an occasional burst when I pass someone even slower than me ha ha RE: 3 new records on the CB tonight - bronx boy_imp - 06-22-2013 I have about 400 miles on the cb, and I am getting around 40 mpg. I guess maybe too much stop and go around the city. But this never seemed to affect mpg with my other bikes. RE: 3 new records on the CB tonight - the Ferret - 06-22-2013 Bronx boy.. I think my first few tanks I got about 48, next few tanks about 50 then 52 for a few tanks and now 55-56 so as it is breaking in it is getting better. I would think without the stop and go, and reasonable wrist control one should see a return of 50 mpg quite easily. RE: 3 new records on the CB tonight - Randy_S_imp - 06-22-2013 I checked just once but I got 44.1 mpg and it seems to stay in that neighborhood. RE: 3 new records on the CB tonight - retroman_imp - 06-22-2013 On my first tank of gas from the dealership the last bar started blinking at ~105 miles. I've mostly navigated 10-15 miles round trips to work in stop and go traffic. I will monitor it more closely on the next fill up. Does anyone know what the idle rpm is supposed to be? 1000? RE: 3 new records on the CB tonight - the Ferret - 06-22-2013 Mine idles about 1100 rpms after warming up, a little higher for a few mins after start up. My first tank on the dealers dime also came up short..i think his full and my full are about 1/2 gallon apart lol |
