Considering selling the CB... - jodyz_imp - 06-17-2014

I've been off the bike for a couple weeks and I really miss riding, but it appears that my ride time will be severely limited for the remainder of this year. After putting approx 9500 miles on the bike in the first year, I'll be lucky if I'll be able to ride at all through the remainder of 2014 then extend that through the winter months. So, the decision to sell, store it away, or keep it running with "garage runs" until next Spring is weighing heavily. Undecided

Opinions?

Well, for me it would hinge on if I enjoyed the bike enough to save it until I could ride it again. Depending on where you live and how deep into cold weather you are willing to ride, you might only miss a couple 3 or 4 additional months than you would normally miss.

Would hate to have to make that decision, however I love my CB 1100 and if docs said I Couldn't ride for 12 or 18 months, I know I'd want it there waiting for me when the docs finally gave me the ok to ride again.

I think I'd probably keep it unless I could sell it at a good price and then buy a new one when I was able to ride again.

I'd keep it, but that's me. I love this bike.

I wouldn't recommend "garage runs". They can do more harm than good, particularly with an air cooled engine. Short runs without bringing the bike up to normal operating temps will just dump moisture (byproduct of combustion) into the crankcase. If it's not going to be ridden for a long time, you're much better off properly prepping it for storage. Fresh oil, drain fuel system, drop some oil into the cylinders, pull battery, etc...

When I can't ride anymore I will put the bike in the living room and recall the good days. Or have some kid when'll it out into the driveway and I will clean and wax it. I would hold on to it.

Jodyz, winter here is about 4 hours long. By the time you prepped it for storage, it would be over. Just ride it whenever you have a spare hour!

Better to ride every week or 2 for 45 min. And imho, you've already taken the big depreciation hit so the drop in value in the next year or so will be less so you might as well hang on to it, unless want something different. In that case sell it now and use the money to buy later when you can ride regularly. You might fancy something else by then.

don't forget to put stabil in your gas if your not riding it for the next 3 to 12 months.

Some equipment to tend to the battery is also good..

I've been in a similar situation years back and I sold my bike. I truly regretted my decision later. I would keep the CB and either store it properly or try to ride it whenever possible.
