Hello Owners -Any reports of engine hesitation? - SteveO_imp - 09-11-2014

Hello All:

I am a long time Honda Rider and current owner of a 2012 GL1800. I've previously owned a 2000 VFR800, 2004 ST1300, 2008 GL1800, 20120 VFR1200. All of my past rides were silky smooth fuel injection with never a misfire, stumble, or hesitation of any kind. I can not say the same for my 2012 GL1800. It has been plagued with a cold engine hesitation, that I can't fix, and Honda won't acknowledge. been to the dealership 4 times for this. Honda claims it runs as expected. many newer wings have this issue.

What I'm curious about is if other newer Honda Models have this problem with Fuel Delivery, smoothness, etc.

I considering trading my wing for a CB1100, as I don't tour all that much anyway.

Does anyone have drivability or smoothness issues?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum mate. Have a look at this:

and this:

There are also a number of posts regarding ECU re–flashing and the merits thereof. My bike, a '10 model, runs to my satisfaction. The only mods I have are a Staintune slip on and I have done a PAIR valve mod.

Cheers

SteveO, g'day and welcome.

There's some discussion about the merits of a PCV [url=http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=3813]here.

There's discussion about roughness in running [url=http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=3892]here.

Like Pterodactyl, I'm pretty happy with my CB1100. It's bog standard.

My CB1100 is a charm compared to my 1990 BMW. Both FI. The BMW is a cold hearted bike takes a fair bit to warm up and not stumble at low RPMs. Always been like eve when new and on real gas in 1990. So the Honda is a dream to me.

I find the on-off throttle transition a bit abrupt (it helped to take the slack out of the throttle cable), but haven't personally experienced any misfires, hesitation, etc. The bike is completely stock.

Thanks for the quick feedback Pterodactyl.... I like that these tricks are available, but I think I'm more interested in reports about how the bike performs straight out of the crate. One shouldn't have to modify the fuel maps just to get smooth performance.

Smooth as a babys behind, both my 13 and 14. It is an I-4 so there is some mild vibration, particularly at high rpms, but I have experienced no fueling issues, on the contrary this bike pulls well from1500 rpms on up. Suggest you talk your dealer into a test ride.

My 2013 is completely stock and fuels perfectly from idle on. Throttle transition not perfect but far better than most FI bikes. Have zero complaints, one of the best bikes I've owned in over 45 years of riding. Fuel mileage is very good and the bike has to be ridden hard to drop it down into the 40+ mpg range. Honda did an excellent job of sorting this model before putting it into production.

Good to know. I am working on getting a test ride... perhaps as soon as Saturday

No mods on mine...bone stock with the smoothest acceleration and gob's of torque to spare. Never had any hesitation issues at all.
