VIN Decoder - Django - 11-18-2014 There is a webpage with a search engine, where you can enter the VIN of your Beemer and get all information about your vehicle, like when it really was built and which configuration, color and so on: http://www.bmwarchiv.de/vin/ e.g. for my K1100 VIN 0196272: http://www.bmwarchiv.de/vin/0196272.pdf Question: Is there something like that available at Honda? I'd really like to look up the production details of my CB. In particular I'm interested in the day of build. A search would most likely be fruitful. Cheers RE: VIN Decoder - Cormanus - 11-18-2014 Django, there's a technical but useful [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_identification_number]article in Wikipedia which should help you decode your VIN. You could also try [url=http://www.vin-decoder.net/]this site, although it told me nothing about my VIN. There was a long discussion about VINs on the forum [url=http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?pid=57309]here when two members thought they had the same VIN. Yours should start off with JH2SC65 which will tell you it was manufactured in Japan and is a Honda CB1100. The 10th digit should be 'D' to tell you it was manufactured in 2013. If you need any help PM me your VIN and I'll try to tell you about it. RE: VIN Decoder - Xyzzy_imp - 11-18-2014 I'm just lurking here because I am interested in a CB1100. Here is a forum thread I made for decoding Valkyrie VINs: http://www.f6cforum.com/forum/8-honda-f6c-general-discussion/6018-how-many-made.html The links in that thread might be useful. RE: VIN Decoder - Django - 11-19-2014 Thank you guys for the valuable hints! Beside the general info, one can get out of the vin, I was hoping, there is also a kind of database available, using the last seven digit of the vin, the serial number of our vehicle, to look up real production details, as bmwarchiv.de provides, like: when exactly it left the final construction, which color, which extras. Honda has this information stored somewhere in an internal database for sure. Well, may be, I should just more concentrate on enjoying my bike.
VIN Decoder - Cormanus - 11-19-2014 Django, you could try asking Honda Germany. I tried to get some information from Honda Australia about VINs and they weren't helpful. That said, I was looking for general info. If you asked for details about your specific VIN they may be more helpful. I agree, it's better not to try to figure it all out, I myself have only wasted time. |
