He says he used the carbs on another project and lists a source where you can buy them. In the write up at the bottom.

It reminds me of the ads in old editions of Mad Magazine for replica Luger pistols for your children. They were said to be safe because the firing pins had been removed. Further down the page was an ad for firing pins for replica Luger pistols.

I love the ads were they say X doesn't work, but the part is readily available for $4 and it's an easy fix.
Well it it's cheap and easy why didn't you fix it before putting it up for sale?

Yeah, that one always cracks me up. The most common one I see is "all it needs is a carb cleaning". For me, buying a non-running bike I don't go higher than salvage value. You have no idea what'll be wrong with it once you do get the carbs clean and the engine started. Given that this guy's ad states that over $10K has been invested in the bike, it looks like he's looking for a big payday on his non-runner. He's fishing for trusting souls (or those that don't know any better) on Ebay.
I'll never forget a friend of mine that bought a stunning looking KZ the "just needs a carb cleaning". The exterior of the bike looked near perfect. After several months of replacing dried out rubber bits and rebuilding carbs, he cranked it up to find oil leaking out of a crack in the case.

Whether it's cars or bikes...beware missing parts. It's always the expensive or unavailable part that's gone. In that situation, it may not be the carbs per se but the linkage and other accouterments.
