1/4 mile time - Kung Fu Joe_imp - 07-04-2015 I read somewhere (I think on this forum) that the CB1100 does the 1/4 mile in 11.79 and 0-60 in 3.3 seconds. I only took it for a test ride, but really didn't think it had that much power... A V rod Muscle (which is listed at 11.73 1/4 mi) IMO is much faster, with pretty much the same listed time. I understand that the CB isn't a sport bike... But are those times accurate? RE: 1/4 mile time - HikerToo_imp - 07-04-2015 Only has 80+ horse power, wish it had more, although I hardly shift over 4K RMP's these days anyway....in contrast, my 86 900 Ninja had hundreds if not thousands of redline shifts....different bikes for different purpose. RE: 1/4 mile time - Inhouse Bob - 07-04-2015 I'm no Racer Rick and I ride fairly conservatively. I haven't ridden a "sport bike" since the CBs were considered sport bikes ![]() So, I'm not in it to race it, but today I got a big shock. I pulled out of the Cycle Gear parking lot in front of a bunch of guys on different bikes and was feeling like I had something to prove. We had been looking at all the different bikes and everyone liked the looks of CB and most had never seen one. We talked horsepower and all and the gang was nice but not real impressed. So when I pulled out onto the street and got a few yards up the road, I twisted the throttle all the way- first time I've ever done that- and the bike jumped hard and the front wheel lifted. Maybe about 10 inches. I, of course, panicked and let off the throttle right away and the front end whomped down and I wobbled a few times before regaining some control. I'm sure they were laughing back there, but I was so excited to have done my first wheelie that I didn't much care. Not that I will ever try that again. I'm too old for those shenanigans. Anyhow, this bike has enough power for me and I feel like it could take most cars in a drag race. At least any car that someone my age might drive
RE: 1/4 mile time - Frulk_imp - 07-04-2015 Honda didn't set out to make the CB the worlds fastest retro styled, air/oil cooled motorcycle. What's being discussed here is what I refer to as the "20+ Syndrome". The guy whose bike makes 40HP (I have one) wishes it made 60. The guy with a 60HP motor wishes it made 80. The guy with an 80HP bike (insert some CB owners here) wishes it made 100hp...and so on. You get the picture. Anybody that doesn't think the CB is fast enough needs to keep a 40HP bike in the garage to provide contrast/perspective for that point of view. I rode the Moto Guzzi V7R this AM for about 50 miles. Love the bike but it's not my first choice for gut wrenching torque well below redline. When I need that I go with the CB. There's ALWAYS somebody with a faster machine....Down that road lies pain and frustration..
RE: 1/4 mile time - the Ferret - 07-04-2015 according to Cycle World 12.11 sec. @ 109.25 mph It's quarter mile times are hamstrung by a rev limiter in the lower gears and a speed limiter . Even with multiple limiters 12.11 isn't that much slower than the VRods 11:73 (less than 4/10th of a second) Supposedly the V Rod Muscle makes 125 hp, is not limited electronically (and btw cost 60% more) in which case it's pretty slow for what it has going for it. For example the 130 HP Yamaha FZ-1 turns mid 10's at 132 in the quarter mile. For $400 you could reflash the CB, remove the rev and speed limiters and absolutely smoke the Vrod if that was your goal, and still have 5 1/2 thousand dollars in your pocket, but the vast majority of us who buy the CB 1100 aren't interested in how fast we can get it to go thru the 1/4. RE: 1/4 mile time - Cormanus - 07-04-2015 I have an app on my phone that lets you record 1/4 mile performance. It's not my bag, really, but I tried a couple of times for fun. The best I got was 11.04 @ 160kmh. The app was free for the iPhone and is called QMileT. RE: 1/4 mile time - Motogeezer1949_imp - 07-04-2015 As long as you're not clutching it, the CB is not going to go over backwards so next time someone wants to try, fight your instinct to chop the throttle shut, hold it open wide and see what happens...... Don't forget to shift into second before you hit the limiter
RE: 1/4 mile time - xNE0x_imp - 07-04-2015 You are expecting an air cooled motor to throw down consistent and more HP vs a liquid cooled engine? Yeah, I am sorry but I need to walk away from yet another "It's not enough HP" thread. 1/4 mile time - Cormanus - 07-04-2015 xNEOx, with respect, one very mild expression of regret, does not make this a 'not enough HP thread'. RE: 1/4 mile time - puffnlola_imp - 07-04-2015 I have to agree with geezer...unflashed....it will pull hard....but without clutchn it... its hard to to pull the front wheel...my guess is there pretty long.....what a great platform to build a street legal drag bike....there was a cool look guys were doing around So. Calf in the mid 70s that kinda never got big but the Russ Collins vans will remember....just waiting for that to come back! |
