Vendor Rant! - Klamathonian_imp - 05-22-2023 I just returned from a special trip to pick up rims with new tires, at Medford Cycle Gear. They offered to have them ready 4 hours after I dropped them off on Friday. I said Monday would be as soon as I could get back. He thanked me for my patience and said they would be ready. Get there this morning, there not done. Then Manager said they were too busy helping customers to do tire mounting. I replied I am a customer were was my help...THAT YOU COMMITTED TO! the big deal is it is 98 mile round trip. In a 2010 chevy 4x4 going over 3 2000 ft climbs about 11 mpg.. that works out to $40 in gas. But they had customers that must have been more important than me. Hello Rocky Moutian ATV. I will not spend one more dime at Cycle Gear!!! RE: Vendor Rant! - GoldOxide_imp - 05-22-2023 I am finding it challenging to get shops to keep their commitments, and that is even when I provide extra time for the unexpected. If they say, "yeah, sure, no problem" - then something smells. Sure enough, they fall short of expectation, even if they committed. Commitment almost seems to have little value these days. Setting up expectations that are not met is, well, [almost] life. However, not notifying the customer that they cannot meet the commitment and wish to reschedule also seem absent. So many times the customer will travel from afar (maybe taking a work day off) only to learn the committed work cannot be completed on that day. Garages sometimes wonder in discomfort why people call ahead so often before they arrive. RE: Vendor Rant! - pdedse - 05-22-2023 That's pretty bad...without abash, I would have asked for a $100 or more off the price to compensate for time / gas. So did you pick up your bike and leave? ON TOP of it all, they lied. I went in looking for a Dunlop tire that is only available at Honda Dealership. Instead of telling me that they said it was no longer made. And said that the Bridgestone and Michelin were the options in that size. I canceled the ride I was going on and the order. I will pick my rims up tomorrow and get the tires I wanted. NOT A SINGLE DIME OF MINE GOES TO CYCLE GEAR AGAIN!!!! RE: Vendor Rant! - Obleo - 05-22-2023 I have done 2 trips recently and stayed at upscale motels, both places were not very clean and was told they don’t do room service on weekends. At over $200.00 a night customer service has gone out the window. I know I sound like a stodgy old man, but since Covid seems like this is the new standard. RE: Vendor Rant! - Gone in 60 - 05-23-2023 Obleo, I travel for a living and spend more time in hotels than I do my own bed, and since its usually the same hotels over and over, I get to know the staff and management at most places. Covid was the cause of the stop in daily room servicing. Nowdays, it's more a factor of hotels not being able to find workers to clean rooms. But, in general, I think that the lack of labor in general can provide a convenient excuse for customer service to slip. Many of my suppliers are missing deadlines, shipping materials late or in shoddy condition. The excuse is always "We can't find people to do the work." Ok, getting off of my soapbox now. RE: Vendor Rant! - GoldOxide_imp - 05-23-2023 ... yes, the change in human behaviour is discouraging from a service point-of-view. I guess one could argue it was going to come eventually. For riders, hopefully vendor and/or service negligence doesn't result in an accident or something like that. RE: Vendor Rant! - Gone in 60 - 05-23-2023 Klamathonian's experience is the reason I bought the tools and learned to mount and balance my own tires. The independent shop near me that I always used struggled through the pandemic, but went out of business afterwards because he couldn't find help. Other shops either broke promises or wanted exhorbitant amounts of money to mount and balance loose, off-the-bike tires. The increased price of tires themselves is bad enough!
