Update on my recent purchase, and some ride pics! - kvdv_imp - 08-17-2015

Hi folks!
First, I love this forum! You've all been a help and inspiration. You've helped me install gaitors on my newly purchased DLX, helped me decide on the Road Comet II fairing, helped me figure out what kind of luggage to go with for touring, etc... I wanted to share with you how the bike is turning out, but haven't mastered the photo thing here yet. Some of you already have visited my blog, which I DO know how to work with, so I put some pictures up there: http://karlvandervelden.com/the-new-scooter/

All the upgrades I've done are specifically with touring in mind. I want to testify here that the Road Comet II absolutely obliterated all the wind management issues I was concerned about in an earlier post. What a beautiful addition as well! The OEM luggage rack functions and looks perfect on this bike too. After seeing pictures of what happens when the engine cases touch ground unexpectedly, I have to say that the engine guards are giving me peace of mind too. Grip Puppies are miraculous. And in my opinion, the fork gaitors should have come installed by the factory...they literally complete the bike. At the moment, I can't think of a single thing the bike lacks now, except tens of thousands of miles on the odometer. Better get to work Smile

Welcome! Your bike is gorgeous!

I cut and pasted the URL of one of your pictures and added an image tag to both ends. Don't use any spaces.

and viola!

My goodness what a beautiful motorcycle. Only one thing I see missing to complete this bike . RLETs. And only $6 from your local Honda dealer. such a deal!

Looks great. That's about where I am too. I did a windshield, a rear rack, and the 'crash bars'. I do have a modest bag strapped to my rack for carrying stuff.

Your bike looks great. The gaiters put the finishing touch to the DLX I think.Thumbs Up

how was the rear turn signal relocation accomplished?
what parts did you use?
was it a kit?

That's actually an interesting story. I had separately ordered both the OEM luggage rack, and a set of SW Motech Blaze saddlebags, not knowing that they weren't compatible. First to arrive was the saddlebags, which came with it's own signal relocation hardware, which is what you see on my bike. I installed the stanchion hardware as well, thinking I was all set for touring once the luggage rack arrived. When it did, I installed that too...but when I tried to put the bags on with the luggage rack in place, it was a complete mess. I initially thought I'd have to get rid of the bags, but I ended up being able to use them after all by devising my own home-made strap system. The stanchion hardware unfortunately was no longer needed so that's all sitting in a box. Expensive lesson and kind of embarrassing, but it actually worked out fine. I'll post pictures of what I did with the bags - it actually turned out good considering what a mess I'd created in the first place :/
