I have read about a pretty freak accident on another motorcycle forum and it made me think about visibility. It concerned a car pulling into a parking space and not seeing the motorcycle that was already parked there. The rider had just put his helmet on and was proceeding to push the bike off the center stand. He was hurt and lucky he was not killed. It made me think about our 2014 CB's. Blacked out, even the wheels. If the rider wears dark gear, especially his helmet I'd guess he would not stand out very much. Especially in low light conditions. Something to think about. His 28,000 dollar motorcycle was a total loss. Those neon green helmets and jackets might be worth considering.

Also, how about not parking the bike so deep into the parking spot? Maybe line it up more with the tails of adjacent vehicles?

I've seen this happen several times. It seems a lot of people just turn their brains off when they enter a parking lot.
I always park so that the back of the bike is visible between the cars on either side. I also attach my day-glo yellow helmet to the rear rack when parked.

Yah,
my guess is that when a bike is parked too deep in the spot, from their vantage point, a driver might assume the spot is empty and just swing into the spot and WHAM.
Dollars to donuts that's what happened in the above unfortunate scenario.

This is very important. I not only park at the outside edge of the parking spot so the bike will be spotted right away, I park at the edge of the lot where no one wants to park. Not only does the walk do me good, the bike really is noticeable and therefore less likely to be accidentally hit. It's also the place I park any vehicle I'm driving, my vehicles stay looking like new.

Most of the time when I stop, Walmart, Publix, or any other big box store, I park up by the front door or at least in the yellow line area by the handicap parking. I never park in the parking spots. Never does anybody say a thing about where I park, even the parking lot security.

White helmets and red textile jackets for me - and I never park in malls or at big box stores.
If I need to go to places like that it usually means I need to carry something large so I drive my cage.
