silly squeak - pdedse - 05-10-2016 I took my 14 standard in for 600 mile service. After getting it back, I turn handlebars left, no problem. When I turn them right, cables, something squeak loud and I think they are the throttle cables, but not entirely sure. It's hard to pinpoint. I don't think it was there before, but maybe it was? Can someone do me a favor, turn your handlebars hard right with engine off...fairly quiet? or noise with rubber on rubber squeak / skwaaaak throughout the turn? Makes me think something was moved around, overly tightened...or maybe it was like that and I just never noticed (but I don't think so). RE: silly squeak - the Ferret - 05-10-2016 hmm I seem to recall a thread about this early on and it was cables or wire harness squeaking. Think mine did it too on my 13. Let me see if I can find it. Found it *** never mind the attached thread*** although it is pretty funny. Bottom line if I stood my bike vertically and twisted the bars to the right, myself and others could hear the wiring loom rubbing against the steering head I believe making a squeaking noise. Nothing I ever worried about. http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=3302&highlight=squeak RE: silly squeak - JustCruising_imp - 05-10-2016 Same on my 2014 CB EX which I bought new 2 months ago. I've been thinking it's the cables etc in their plastic/rubber sheaths. Can't hear it when riding so haven't fretted too much over it. RE: silly squeak - drodg33 - 05-10-2016 I think my 14 did it last year. I don't think it is doing it now and I always assumed it was the cables rubbing. As long as I cannot hear a squeak riding I am good! RE: silly squeak - LongRanger_imp - 05-10-2016 My DLX does it. So did my ex-'70 CB750K0, so we're in good company. Thanks guys for the confirmation, I think I'm hypersensitive to the bike for taking it into the dealership, which I haven't done for a long time because my KLR650 is so easy to work on. I should get there (doing own maintenance) w/ this bike as well, but in time...just not sure about the 8k service...8.7 hours!? the shop told me. Yikes. That's good motivation to start spending some time reading up on the how-to's. RE: silly squeak - uscgmac_imp - 05-10-2016 8.7 hours labor for a service sounds nuts. That's about 900.00 in labor plus and parts, fluids ect. No way I'm paying that. I'll do the basics and take my chance on the rest. Lol Sent from my SM-G530T using Tapatalk RE: silly squeak - Cormanus - 05-10-2016 I've had those major services done at a dealer and there's no way they've taken 8.7 hours. It's possible, I suppose, that my services haven't been done properly, but I don't think so. As uscgmac says, that's nuts. Guy said the 8.7 hrs was for the 8k mile service: oil, valve check, spark plugs, "other stuff"...but I'm hoping by the time I get to 8k that someone has done a youtube on the valve check, then I can see for myself how difficult it is. RE: silly squeak - kmoney_imp - 05-11-2016 It's probably 8.7 hours at flat rate labour "book time." I do seriously doubt it takes any skilled mechanic that long to do the procedure. I'm planning to do a tutorial when I do my valve check, but I don't plan on popping the engine open until this season is over or I hit 20,000kms. |
