CB1300 similarities - Noleshot_imp - 05-27-2016
I read on a Honda website (http://world.honda.com/CB1100/engineer-talk/) that the CB1100 engine is based in part on the CB1300. The strokes are identical and the engine cases look very similar. Actually, frame, brakes, instruments, bars, hand and foot controls, etc. look much alike. I am a new owner of the black '14 model and new to this forum, but I haven't read any references to the 1100's heritage being closely associated with the CB1300 (surely in here somewhere). While somewhat disillusioning that the bike did not start as a clean sheet, it is comforting that major components have been thoroughly sorted out since the 90's on a bigger, more powerful motorcycle.

Noleshot, there's been plenty of discussion on the forum about the CB1300 and how disappointed US members are that it was never imported. Some of us lucky members in Australia have laid eyes on them and think they're pretty good bikes. I'd like one. That said, for me, at least, they're not as beautiful as the CB1100. And I'm happy any bugs have been dealt with through earlier models.

I think the CB1300 provided some inspration and ideas in later development of the CB 1100, but the CB1300 was not in production yet or in the planning stages, when the CB1100 project first started

Sorry - from "page not found" page look at products - motorcycles - and at the bottom of that page you'll see engineer talk and the CB1100. 10 or so topics discussed by the design team. Or do the dame from world.honda.com

The 1300 was first introduced in '97 and then slightly restyled in '98 I believe. '97 had a rounder tank, where the '98 tank was more "square". Looks of the engine and bits here and there changed a little over the years. I had a 2008 CB1300 with half fairing for a couple of years, which I had to sell because of change of residence. It was a beast. I remember having trouble keeping the front wheel on the pavement; I used to force myself to think that I wasn't competing in the SBK(OK maybe that's exaggerating it a bit). The 1100 has a much smoother and comfortable ride in comparison. Again, it's not hard to imagine that both bikes share the same line of heritage...
