Turn signal lens discoloration - pdedse - 10-01-2016 Recently finished a trip from OR to midwest and back, bike was in the sun long hours over 2 weeks of riding, the rear turn signals faded significantly from orange to dull, whitish color on the top. Questions: will this affect my mpg? should I change my oil? Questions: will this affect my mpg? should I change my oil? Too late. The damage is done. Strip it down and sell it for parts. RE: Turn signal lens discoloration - Cormanus - 10-01-2016 No to both questions. But if you have RLETs you should replace them immediately. If you don't have them, get some. Quickly! RE: Turn signal lens discoloration - the Ferret - 10-01-2016 Yes to both questions .... er wait RE: Turn signal lens discoloration - pdedse - 10-01-2016 Haha, the discoloration was real; my questions obviously not so much, but thanks for the "input". Yeah, at first I thought how strange that the rear lens would discolor, turn a bit milky, and the front...nada. What, was I going so fast that the sun couldn't keep up with me and could only reach the rear ones? Then I remembered I had put some gorilla tape on the chrome part of the rear signals so that the saddle bags wouldn't scuff 'em up during the trip. When I got home I used a little goof off to help remove the tape because that adhesive was on there pretty good. So I think with the rag I must have rubbed on yellow lens and it made the surface turn dull white. But with some soap and warm water, and a nylon scouring pad, I managed to get the lens back to orange. MPG hasn't dropped either. RE: Turn signal lens discoloration - AzBob_imp - 10-03-2016 I was gonna say must have been some chemical because my bike spent many, many hours in the Arizona sun, and has no damage. |
