Wish me luck! (suspension upgrade) - ohiorider_imp - 07-13-2017

I've ordered a set of Ikon shocks for the CB1100. The 7610 series, specifically 7610-1507 -SP17 for the CB1100. The SP-17 designation describes the cosmetics (30mm chrome cap, chrome shock body, black spring.) This should match the oem shock in appearance.

Ikon currently offers two spring rates. I opted for the lighter of the two.

The shocks provide 3 preload settings and 4 rebound damping settings.

Since I'm in and out of town for the next month or so, I won't get the shocks installed until mid-August, but if they provide a ride that works for me, I'll still have several months of good weather to enjoy the bike.

I'm also (probably) going to install the Traxxion Dynamics kit for the front forks, but I may first check the fork oil level as shipped from the factory, and perhaps adjust fork oil level and weight.

I've asked in the past if anyone that weighs 150-175 pounds has installed a progressive fork spring, but still hoping for an answer from the CB1100 forum.

Bob

Good luck Bob, let us know how it goes. I've been intending to go with lighter weight fork oil to see how it works before upgrading springs, just haven't got around to it yet.

I installed Ikon shocks on my Bonneville and it made a huge difference in the ride. No more spine jarring going over bumps.
I also installed progressive fork spring and it now takes the bumps much better.
I don't have any particular problem with the CB suspension so no changes for now.

I replaced my rear shocks on my 14 with icons because of the jarring bumps when both myself and my wife were riding.

Once I replaced the rear shocks, it made me notice that the front was a little jarring as well. So I replaced my front forks with the new 2017 forks, and now both ends are more plush than they were originally.

Just out of curiosity, how much did a set of forks cost for a 17?

Not cheap. I'd have to check- but I want to say somewhere between $700-750 after shipping.

I wanted silver forks anyway as my stockers were black so the upgrade covered both visual and tactile.
