Bikes are now in Winter Quarters - Frulk_imp - 12-17-2017

I just got the Guzzi back from having a leaking rear drive repaired. $405 and change. Had planned to ride it to my buddies coffee shop this morning but the light snow they projected in the area for very early Sat AM didn't come down until late Saturday evening. As result Sunday AM the roads were covered with an inch of new snow. So I decided to clean the bike bay out and put the bikes away for the year.

Guzzi was first in. On the lift until Feb sometime when I take it down to have the tires replaced. I have Pirelli's on it and only get 3K out of a set. I don't ride this bike hard and will look for something different this next time around for the 3rd set.

Next was the XR1200. Not going anywhere until spring so it sits in the back

Last was the CB. I plan to pull the CB out in mid Jan and do a 3-4 day ride around northern Lake Powell. That's why it's in the front. I'll post up a trip report. Still need to mount that aluminum top box. Plan to spend at least one night remote camping off bike. Hope to have good weather. Decent is mid 40's and sunny.

I filled all the bikes with ethanol free and ran them for about 10 minutes to get it into the system. Then put on the trickle chargers.

very clean place you have and some fine looking machinery.

just after midnight here and 68 deg . have the windows open and ceiling fan on over my bed where i am headed now .

Frulk, that looks like fantastic spot for your bikes to hibernate!

The beer signs on the walls in your photos took me back a good number of years. Back in the late 80's I was living in Texas and into brewing my own beer. I had a good time with it (the smell of boiling hops was my favorite aspect as my beer itself was never really much to write home about). Later on a good friend introduced me to another guy who really liked to brew beer. He was the first guy I ever met that malted his own barley. His beers were incredible. He ended up enrolling in some sort of brewing studies program in California. Upon returning to Texas he became a full fledged professional craft beer brewer. I recall being really impressed by this at the time as you could probably count the number of professional craft brewers in the state of Texas on just two hands back then. If I remember correctly, his first professional brewing job was at Fredericksburg Brewing Company. Later on he was somehow involved at Real Ale Brewing, very early on in their history. I don't know where they're at located today but back then they were operating out of a funky, weathered old building right off of the Blanco's main square. The last time I talked to this guy, he had lost interest in brewing professionally and was going back to school to become a doctor. Interesting guy to say the least.

Guth, interesting about Real Ale. I was at their Brewery last Sept in Blanco ( I think). They have a nice new facility with a tasting room upstairs. One of my best friends that I backpack and fly fish with has some cousins that are the owners. Supposedly the 51st largest microbrewery in the country.

Limited tyre choices for your V7R. Those Sport Demons are good but I agree they don't wear well. You may find the Michelin Pilot Activ to be a worthy alternative. The other fitment, Metzeler Lasertec, gives decent wear but doesn't handle as well as the Pirellis and tends to track rain grooves.

Beautiful garage.

I'm astonished you only get 3000 miles out of a set of tires on a sub 50 hp motorcycle that you admittedly don't ride very hard. That's crazy. I'd be looking for another brand of tire too.
