What? No Sissy Bar? - kballowe_imp - 11-23-2016

I've been searching this forum and searching the web.

Lots of information - and a scarce few examples, assuming that you want to fabricate your own sissy bar.

Nobody wants a sissy bar?

Nobody makes a sissy bar?

Hrrrrmp !

Kijima makes a nice one which I recently acquired from another member here who wanted to sell it, who I believe originally got it from Samurider.com. I have it still in the box waiting to be installed. A simple procedure on the CB1100. It's just the grab bar, no rack.

A bolt on rear carrier rack is sold as well by two companies that I know of: Kijima of Japan and as a Honda OEM accessory. Both are rather pricey in the mid to high two hundred dollars range. A third company (Givi) sells one as an integrated set of bars for the CB1100 in the same price range and I think there may be at least one or two other lesser known alternatives.

For my money, FWIW, the integrated Givi bars (shown below in the unboxed picss) are clearly the one to get because you can add a Givi Monolock top case (which comes with necessary rack mount mounting plate), which it was specifically designed for, whereas Honda's OEM with rectangular cross members may not be suitable for that purpose.

Here are some pics of what they look like (first pic is of Honda's OEM rack with no grab bar, and I believe the other pics are of Kijima's grab bar and rack respectively):

Sissy bars are for sissies.

Yeah, I need the bar/backrest. AND a rear rack.

Honda doesn't make one because their solution is the backrest is integrated into the top box. UNFORTUNATELY they don't sell the top box in the US, but you can still buy the carrier. Makes sense to me.
I bought mine from Takashi as Samurider in Japan. It's a nice setup, all be it a tad pricey, but I thought it was worth it. It also came with the honda "one key system" that allows you to key the top box to your bike so a separate key isn't needed for it.

Ugggg.

Well, I don't want a top box.

I'm not planning to ride the wife on back, but maybe some of the Grand kids. We have other motorcycles, so maybe this one ends up being a solo bike.

I dunno

I've been exploring the top box world and found some really low cost alternatives online. Companies like Givi and Shad get a lot for these things. Another lesser known company in the U.S. called T-Motorsports - with ties to a Chinese manufacturer - has much low cost products such as this one. It includes a universal mounting kit and a backrest pad (hidden on the back side). The quality is truly superb for the price ($35 shipped) and would integrate very well with an all black standard model CB1100 with a rear luggage rack. You would need to add the latter such as the one shown above made by Givi in my previous post. Then you can have the best of all worlds: rack with grab rail, plus top box with back rest. This one is not a supersize spacious trunk case by any means. In fact, it is rather compact (which I like), but adequate to hold one full face helmet and/or other miscellaneous stuff.

I have an Emgo trunk and like it because it is compact yet still fits a full face helmet. There is no back pad option though.

Those trunks are great for many people, and I appreciate all of this information

I'm going for the old sissy bar/rear carrier look.

Kenny, I have the Honda OEM carrier and was wondering if the trunk is compatible.
