Beautiful spring day yesterday and my Harley friend rumbles by and says “hop on” to the very comfortable pillion bucket of his big Ultra Limited. Never been a passenger on a bike since I was a kid and was a bit nervous of the 5 km gravel road to get to where my bike was stored. After almost six months (no battery tender - just some fuel stabilizer in the tank) it fired up effortlessly and began to purr. Tires were just down a few psi each which seemed to help with the gravel road back.
I don’t think I need here to describe the feeling of the first spring ride, particularly on a CB1100. Went to sleep with a big grin on my face last night.

About a month ago we had a three day break in the winter weather so I pulled the ST out of storage. I needed to replace the differential on it before the big June trip.* Yesterday I rode it about 150 miles, burning old gas, goin' nowhere, just county roads.
Tomorrow I'll take the battery over to storage and fire up the CB. I'll park the ST and pull out the CB. I need to burn some of the 'old gas' out of the CB as well.
These first rides are indeed awesome. Remember, Good riding is a perishable skill, ride like you are invisible, and the cagers are out to kill you.

105K miles on the odo. I saw some significant wear at 20K when I bought it. Previous owner had not properly maintained it.

Getting on the bike after winter is not an experience I've had as I've always been able to ride all year round. But I remember the first sails of the summer (well, spring really) and also being away for 6 months and setting on the bike again for the first time. It's a good feeling and one to be savoured every year.
