Rent your CB1100?? Michigan - Superscythe_imp - 04-27-2018

I live in the "Thumb" area of Michigan. Those of you from Michigan will know what that means. I am very interested in getting a CB1100. My concern is...the last 2 bikes I bought new, I soon realized I did not like them. Lost money on those for sure. So, I would like to ride a CB1100 before I make a decision to buy. If anyone in Michigan is game, let me know. I would pay to be able to try one out. I currently have 2 bikes: 2006 Triumph Scrambler and a 1998 Honda Magna (with fewer than 2,000 original miles). Two weeks ago I sold my 2008 Versys 650 after owning that for 10 years.
If anyone in Michigan would be kind enough to let me try their CB1100 out, it would be greatly appreciated. I am in my mid-40's and have been riding since I was 12 years old.
A dealer in my area recently sold 2 2014 CB1100's for $6465 OTD. Yes that was the actual price! They bought out a Honda dealer and wanted the CB1100's gone. I was right there and could have bought one....but I promised myself I would not buy a new bike until I could try it out first. Those bikes were both sold last week.... Ugh

Thanks everyone

Fly out to Colorado and you're welcome to my DLX.

Kind of sneaky, but look in Craig's list and other advertising in your area for someone selling a used CB and check it out and take a test ride. There are still new 2014's out there as well that you may be able to test ride.

Thank you for the offer Longranger!
I have considered trying out someone's used bike....and who knows maybe I would end up buying it! Smile

I don't mean to be preachy, but unless the OP is actually considering a used CB1100, I'd say don't do this. I'll admit that it probably would have crossed my mind, but it's such a waste of time for the seller. I have sold a few motorcycles and vehicles via CL the last few years: I was straightforward with the buyers and they were with me. It was appreciated on both sides.

Your dealer doesn't offer test rides? I've bought many bikes and everyone offered a test ride or demo model to ride.

Agreed, my dealer was insistent on me taking a test ride which I had no problem taking him up on even though it was 25 degrees that day.

Must be a regional thing. None of the Japanese dealers around here offer test rides. The only ones that do around here are Harley, Victory and some BMW dealers.

It's actually one of the reasons I'm waiting around for some used z900RS bikes to hit the market. I really want one, but I'm not ready to part with the big bucks until I ride one.

Will any of them offer an option to tear up the contract if you don't like the bike within a couple miles of the dealership? I don't understand how they can expect you to spend money without a test ride.

Superscythe, I’m not real close to you, but your welcome to take mine for a spin. There’s some nice roads in the area, and I94 isn’t very far for seeing how it feels on the highway. The bike doesn’t have the stock exhaust, so it’ll have a bit more sound, not obnoxious (Yoshimura system). I’m in southwest lower Michigan (Lawton).
