Belledonne balcony road - Delphisa - 05-06-2025

On the 1st of May we had a superb weather in south east of France, I have been on the road the whole day, on some small roads around Grenoble.
The goal was to follow the Belledonne Balcony road, winding at medium altitudes between the Isere valley and the Belledonne montain, from south of Grenoble to Allevard area.
First stop when having a good view over "Grand Colomb" (2400 m) and "Grande Lance de Domene" (2700 m). Still plenty of snow on these summits.

Soon an other stop with a last sight over Grenoble town and Vercors montains.

Belledonne montains are about 50 km long, with many peaks at 2500 to 2900 m.

Chartreuse montains are on the opposite side of the Isere valley

We returned back to Grenoble area through Chartreuse Montains. 170 km of small winding roads over the day... A very nice day.

sigh....and here I'm still chained to the Eastern Half of the USA. I guess I'll always have the parkway?

It's fun to google-map some of the mountains you refer to and see a bit of southern France. The roads on the map look very inviting to ride. Gorgeous views and good to see red among all that green!

Europe is just a plane ticket away Mr P. and booking a European tour is easy.

Mrs Ferret and I booked a Best of Europe Tour with Edelweiss in 2010. Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France and Lichtenstein. They provided everything. We were pampered. It was awesome.

Austria was our favorite but all of it was awesome!

and these days with internet connections and GPS's I'm guessing it wouldn't be hard to rent a bike and self tour

Wow, Delphisa, that's beautiful country!
Between you guys sharing pictures of gorgeous areas to ride, really makes me want to get out of the city for a while.

At least you have lots of roads with turns. We have about 10, otherwise, they all look like this.

There's not many cars, Whoops. You can slalom through the centre line. Biker

LOL! Indeed!

Interesting note about that pic. I took it a couple years ago in Skull Valley, several miles down the road from Dugway Proving Grounds (aka Area 52 in some circles). When I stopped at the abandoned gas station next to the road where that was taken, I realized I was being tailed by an Army base security truck as they own most of the land out there. Since virtually nobody lives out there, I suppose they probably take an interest in anyone that doddles near the base perimeter for no apparent reason. When I stopped there to stretch and eat my lunch, they pulled over on the side of the road about 200 yards past me and just sat there the whole time.

I can't imagine what they would have thought if I started trying to slalom the center line on my FJR.  Tongue
