Duluth Trading Company Jeans - redbirds_imp - 02-26-2014
Looking for riding jeans other than the Kevlar lined Draggon Jeans I usually wear for cool weather riding so bought two pair of the Duluth Trading Company Fire Hose work pants. Though they wont offer the same level of protection as armored riding pants, they are constructed of very tough material (like a fire hose) and would certainly protect better than regular jeans that I usually wear in summer. This is a high quality product and a good value I think.

that seems like a good idea, how do they fit?
Do they seem tougher than regular jeans?
Have you washed them yet to see how much they shrink or not?
I normally wear a 32x34 jean...think they are true to size?

I ordered my true size and the fit is just right. The material is thicker than regular jeans and appears to have a lot of abrasion resistance. The stitching and overall quality is first rate. Mine have been washed at least twice I think and I haven't noticed any shrinkage.

Would you say these jeans are baggy?
My problem with most jeans is they feel tight getting on, and then riding the bike. I have some carpenter jeans that are super baggy; those are ok. I have two pairs of Icon riding cargo pants that have elastic panels in a couple places that help a lot.

I would call the fit "relaxed", they don't bind anywhere on me. Duluth refers to their jeans as "ballroom" because of the crotch panel that accommodates your "gentleman's area".

Say if anyone ever get up here Duluth Trading has both a outlet store and a retail store in this area. I have been in both and they really are something to see.
The outlet has some real deals, they seem to handle the returns and
stuff with problems , I got a ballroom jean for $10 one day. They even sell returns with holes and things missing.
The retail store in Mt. Horeb Wi. is really worth the trip.

I would recommend a size up. I wear a 34 waist in Wranglers which has plenty of room and the 34 I got in the firehose jeans was too tight to fit on my best day. Granted that's not the exact model of jeans you are talking about, but I am assuming they use the same sizing. I agree that the material seemed very stout.
I've pretty much given up on finding anything like that for riding and am instead investigating some of the "armor" you can wear under normal jeans. I tried on some of the kevlar draggin jeans with pads in the knees and it just looks too wierd and doesn't feel right. If I was going to go with full protection I'd just get some actual leathers or textiles with the armor built in. chaps just don't look quite right on this bike, but maybe some textile chaps? Don't know. Still looking.
