Attempting to Pick Another Helmet - linuxology_imp - 03-19-2015

Presently have a HJC CS-R2 and looking to upgrade. Bell RS-1 did not work out. Due to selection locally I will be buying online. I am quite weary of integrated sunscreens as I am skeptical of the lasting nature of the movement, and scared that it may not be dark enough. I have never had issues sliding my sunglasses in my full face helmet. I am looking at HJC FG-17, HJC RPHA. Not sure which of those I should pick. Seems all the other helmets that interest me have integrated sunscreens, AVG Horizon, HJC IS-17. Thoughts/Recommendations. My budget is up to $300. Helmet must be available in white.

Revzilla has a good selection, decent prices and great service. Give them a look.

Competition accessories (Compacc) and MotorcycleGear are also good, low cost dealers with a wide selection. I haunt their closeout section regularly.

Actually I am the opposite now, do not want a helmet without the internal sun visor....I had 5 or 6 new helmets last summer, ended up keeping 2 Shoei's, they fit me well. But to each their own, helmets are a personal choice.
1. Shoei GT Air ( silver)
2. J-Cruise ( red)
eBay'd Shoei modular and open face.

I second the Shoei J-Cruise. Wonderful helmet!

Same here. I got my first one about a year and a half ago and now I won't do without it. I commute, so in the winter I regularly ride in the dark. The internal shield does the job in daylight and the external clear shield works alone at night. In the summer I ride mostly daylight hours, so I have a dark external shield that along with the internal shield, tones things down very nicely. I wear regular glasses, so this works better than having to get some type of sunglasses option (i.e. separate prescription pair or clip ons).

I like my internal sun visor on the HJC IS-MAX I have. It does afford me a great visor in bright sunshine and no darkening during NightRiding. It slides right in front of my glasses so I have clear vision in all light conditions. It slides up out of view when I press a button recessed in the helmet top surface. Easy to use with leather gloves.

The issue I was having with my clear shield is I came home with sunburn on my face around the sunvisor! I laughed the first time I saw that. My girlfriend said this can be remedied by SPF15 facial moisturizer which of course she happens to have, this she makes me wear now with or without the helmet.

P.S. I paid under 200 dollars and it is white. I have it pictured in the "Wear oh where do I buy my jacket?" thread.

Changed my mind on internal sunvisors. Have decided to try out the AGV Horizon. Will report back after.

Internal sun visors are great.

Hear, hear.

I wear prescription glasses with transition lenses and wasn't too fussed about the internal dark visor when I got a helmet that had one. Wouldn't be without it now.
