Aerostich R3 Light - Guth_imp - 07-24-2016
Like Django, I too was drawn to the Roadcrafter one piece riding suit by Aerostich. I had actually been eyeing the R3 Light version for a couple of years now. Last month I received an email from Aerostich alerting me that all in stock Roadcrafter suits were being marked down 20% for a limited time. I had tried on a Roadcrafter suit previously when Aerostich came to Portland two of years ago and knew that the standard sizing fit me well so no modifications were needed. As a bonus, they had the grey/hi-viz color combo that I wanted in my size. I received the suit the evening before leaving for vacation so I didn't get a chance to try it out until this month. I was glad to read that Django was enjoying his Roadcrafter and I was hopeful that I would feel the same way.
I bought this suit primarily for my commuting duties as it easily slips on and off over my work clothes and it is waterproof so I don't have to worry whether or not to throw on a rain shell when heading out. I just put on the Roadcrafter and go This past week I've been able to test the suit out in the rain and out on a longer ride as we covered 170 miles on our Portland area CB1100 ride yesterday. Riding in the rain, I was kept perfectly dry by the Roadcrafter. The venting works great out on the open road. I wasn't expecting much from of a cooling effect from the venting when stuck in stop and go traffic and it doesn't deliver much under those conditions. Fortunately you don't have to be moving all that fast to enjoy the benefits of the venting, but the faster you are moving, the greater the cooling effect. All in all I'm really happy with the Aerostich. If I didn't ride to work year-round then I don't think that I would have spent the money on this suit. However, during actual commuting use I can already tell that this will be a great addition to my inventory of gear.

very nice. someday I'll own one of these ,I think. Just wish they'd come out with a suit with even more ventilation...or maybe a cool-suit.

i have plans to get one soon
never wanted one as i was always very traditional and preferred leather but the Aerostich is a great option
easy to get into and out of and very good protection for street riding

The ventilation is interesting as it feels like you're riding in a balloon of sorts when going down the road as the suit fills up with cool air. It doesn't flap around or anything like that, but the effect is kind of interesting. I'm sure I wouldn't mind even more ventilation come really hot weather. Fortunately the temps are pretty moderate here in Portland.

Speaking of "snappy", that would make a great user name for you if you didn't already have such a legendary handle. Your adeptness with a camera while riding was a topic of conversation during an idle moment of our group ride yesterday. Then after we talked about your ability to capture great shots while in the saddle, I tried to imagine doing so while heading down the road. I have to say that I didn't imagine things going all that well, lol.

I'm really happy with my Roadcrafter R3, especially for commuting. Compared to earlier times, it saves me much time during on and off clothing.
Yesterday we did a ~300 km group ride. It was hot and humid. At lunch rest, I put easlily off my R3, put off my boots and socks and got my sandals out of the luggage. Then I sat there very comfortable in shorts and shirt and sandals at the table in the beergarden, while my friends had to sweat there in atgatt.
Then we continued our ride thru a hefty thunderstorm. I stayed dry while my friend's leathers were soaked with water.
Yes, I like it.

Django, your post does a nice job of pointing out some of the true benefits of the Roadcrafter R3 suits. That thing about staying dry really resonates with me here in Oregon.
